Just popping with a few more items I’ve been able to check off the list for the 2016 Summertime scavenger hunt.

2. A footprint or pawprint

footprint

I’m the guilty party here…I rarely wear shoes at home…even when I should. I walked through the wet grass on the way into the house. Lucky for me my phone was in my pocket to snap a quick photo before it dried.

4. A book or magazine read during 2016

books

I read on my Nook 95% of the time but I did check out some books from the library this summer. It took me a while to get used to reading E-books but they are much lighter reading in bed…and don’t hurt so much when I drop it on my face. Yep, sleep reading is a dangerous hobby.

5. A porch or deck

deck collage

This is the Trex deck at the MN Landscape Arboretum. It overlooks a lovely pond.

15. A team logo

teams

Just a few of our local teams including our beloved North Stars. So sad when they left MN for Dallas of all places. Hello… Minnesota=Hockey. At least now we have The Wild.

19. A seasonal cocktail or beverage

summer drink

New favorite beverage….a Moscow Mule in a chilled copper mug. YUM!!!

I still have yet to find or at least photograph these items.

3. A skeleton, bone or x-ray
10. A bicycle
12. A window
16. A map showing a trip taken during the time period
18. A supermarket cart, basket or trolley full of groceries
20. Someone laughing
21. A photograph of you with a newspaper or calendar page from the time period covered in the Hunt. Note: you may not use a substitute for this item.
Alternatives – if you’re having trouble finding any of the above, you may substitute from this list (but you may not substitute for item #21):
alternative 1: a lighthouse
alternative 2: a baby (human or animal)

I’ll do a final check in before the end of the challenge which ends at the autumn equinox on September 22, 2016.

Happy hunting!

Two posts are colliding this week as T stands for Tuesday and Second on the 2nd fall on the same day.

Thankfully Elizabeth gave a little heads up at the end of her post that reminded me before I finished writing up my post. Time to switch gears.

We’ll start with the fun packages in my mailbox from two fellow T stands for Tuesday bloggers.  So fun to get mail…friend mail, not so much on the bills or junk mail. A little while back I had commented on Krisha’s blog about the winery she had visited. She was so kind to offer me some extra wine labels they picked up as collage fodder. I was so delighted to see an envelope in my PO Box the other day. Look at the great craft fodder and lovely card. Really love that card!

This package helped inspire this journal page.

Thank you Krisha!

I also received a box of goodies along with a 3rd anniversary ATC for T stands for Tuesday from Patty @ Magpie’s Nest.

happy mail day

She knows my love of bottle caps.

So many fun bottle caps and a bunch I’ve never seen. Too fun. Patty also included some bits of collage fodder as well. Can you see the beautiful ATC that precipitated the package in the first place?

Isn’t she lovely?!?  So many tiny details. I keep noticing more and more little things that I didn’t see the first time around.  Thank you Patty!

And now for the Second on the 2nd portion of today’s post.

Three years ago I took a quick photo of a hostess gift I was bringing to our annual Independence Day gathering. Little did I know this post would eventually become the most visited post on my blog. (More on the at the end.)

Take a look…eyes

July 5, 2013

We spent Independence Day, as we have the past several years, at a friend’s house along the parade route in town. It’s always a great time.

I wanted to do a little something extra for our hostess who puts so much time and effort into making sure everyone has a good time. She’s a big fan of Rum and Coke. It ended up being a centerpiece on the buffet table.

I’ve seen over the years that the re-pins of this image on Pinterest have multiplying but it wasn’t until an update in their software did I notice that all of the re-pins now count up on the original. Check out this screen shot I took last night.

Amazing! When I look at my blog analytics it definitely shows that people are visiting from that pin as well.  Not 24,000 pages loads but a significant amount especially given the fact that this is a 3 year old post.

For today I’m going to try and stay cool while running an errand or two. I really need to do some baking and canning but…ugh…not in this heat!

What are you doing today?

Another art journal page on the books…er…the book. *wink* I was heading in a different direction with this page when I began last night. I walked away while waiting for the gesso and a bit of light green paint to dry. I was feeling as if I’d make another abstract geometric type page. Those have been my favorite kind lately. I feel as if they are becoming my “signature style” so to speak. This morning my muse took a sharp right.

beginning to blossom

I was in the mood to use some gelatos. I used a light hand when applying several shades of green and yellow. I used a baby wipe to blend.  At this point I was at a loss so I started looking though my scrap bucket for inspiration. I found a book page with the words and knew then I had direction. The scrap of vellum got me thinking about a sweet paper pieced daisy I recently received from a generous fellow blogger…more on that in another post. (em-hem…Tuesday)

Daisies are really one of my very favorite flowers. I journalled a little about how they make me feel before stamping the date. Incidentally while doing that I realized that I had inadvertently stamped August on the last two pages I did. DUH! I’ll have to go back and fix those.

I’m once again linking up with Art Journal Journey for the current months theme of In my garden.

Art Journal Journey

After my previous mellow subdued journal page, my inner wild child was kicking and screaming to get out.

Bold texture and color makes me so happy.

As well as finding words that speak to me in the moment.

I guess I should actually say an eventful week and a half, both good and bad. I’ll start my tale at the bad beginning…

Two Friday’s ago we awoke to a flooded basement. Completely soaked carpet and over half the basement wet. It could have been much worse…it was our water softener that caused the mess so relatively clean water. I didn’t mention my mess on the blog last Tuesday as we were celebrating the 3rd anniversary of T stands for Tuesday!

On Tuesday I mentioned that we’d be out and about like usual for our Tuesday. We were heading to my inlaws (where incidentally we were planning to go to flood Friday) when something hit my drivers side window and it exploded in on me. I was in the inner lane driving 50mph in traffic.  This is where my school bus driving days had me at an advantage with sheer experience on the road. I was able to pull over and figure out what I was going to do. I ended up driving back home after stopping at a hardware store to get something to at least clean the glass off me and my seat.

T Tuesday eventful week edition

I had some small cuts on my arm and embedded glass under my leg that I must have ground in as I drove. Adrenaline…never felt it until later although Mini-me did get out the first aid kit and cleaned up the blood a bit as I scooped glass from the van. Mini-me had a couple tiny pieces in her leg as well…small enough that we used duct tape to remove them. J was spared as he was in the passenger seat of the minivan. Again…things could have been much worse! I could have lost control and gotten into a wreck.

This is were my tale turns for the better… My neighbor decided last minute to have a garage sale so I was going through the house trying to dig up some things to sell.  We did ok but ended up spending most of our profits on a new hutch…well, new to us. Our neighbors just remodeled their kitchen. We took it home thinking we could use it for storage in our game area.

Looked pretty good there…

and Marvin also approved. Then overnight Mr. G had a bout of insomnia and realized that perhaps the hutch would be better served in our dining room. So we moved it again….back up the stairs it had come down….

This way we are able to actually see the beautiful set of dishes from my paternal Grandma.

hulda

As I age I am looking more and more like her, at least in my opinion.

T Tuesday eventful week edition

I feel as if I’m at Downton Abbey when I open these doors. I think it’s the big soup tureen that gives me that feeling. Love, love, love these dishes! Notice all the tea cups… full set of 12. Anyone want to join me for tea? As a kid my mom had them out only on holidays or when we had “fancy” company. These are certainly not my everyday dishes but we do try to use them occasionally because otherwise…what’s the point?!

T Tuesday eventful week edition

We decided to take the door off the one side and just use open shelving.  It’s amazing how much more open it feels with that simple subtraction of the door. Marvin went back to his favorite spot next to the door…that way he can keep track of everyone’s comings and goings.

T Tuesday eventful week edition

He’s just so dang cute! I’m planning to put a little curtain across the wine rack area to keep them in the dark. I was thinking it might be fun to use a vintage table cloth  as my fabric. Perhaps I’ll make a matching mixer cover at the same time.

Our new hutch took the place of our old buffet. The buffet now resides in the game area.

T Tuesday eventful week edition

It really looks nice there and holds a ton of games. So after all the heavy lifting and switching things around we sat down and played a family game and got thoroughly trounced by Mini-me.

Thanks for sticking with me through my long post.  I have no idea what Tuesday has in store for me…other than I feel as if perhaps I should just stay home.

What are you doing today?

After sitting down to create ATC’s for a swap (more on that another time), I was feeling quite inspired. I decided work in my art journal with the current AJJ theme of In my garden in mind. I definitely wasn’t going to limit myself to the theme though.

rose garden journal

Turns out that was the direction I was heading anyway.

After painting on the page with my fingers, I added some more background texture with stamped text to simulate greenery. I fussy cut around one of my rose photographs then went off to find some words.

I like that I leave you hanging…wondering….”what did she realize?”  I added a bit to line-work with both black and white pens before stamping my date and calling it a day.

Stop by Art Journal Journey and check out all the fun entries for this months theme.

Art Journal Journey

It’s a celebration! T stands for Tuesday turns 3 today! Wowsers…has it been that long already?

I thought for today I’d go back through my posts and pick out a few that show the diversity of our weekly get-together.

t tuesday collage

It’s so much fun to touch base with everyone one a weekly basis….even if I am really late in visiting sometimes. :) Thanks to Elizabeth for continuing to host our virtual tea (or insert your beverage of choice) party. I love seeing photos and art from the group. I feel as if I am taking mini vacations or at the least living vicariously through them.

I’ll be out and about again…it is Tuesday after all.  I will be around to visit later though…

What are you doing today??
