I was feeling the need to just paint. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to DO so I grabbed some paper and just DID.

It was really fun and free. As in free like a bird, of course.

So I ended up with a 9×12 sheet of watercolor paper covered with random painting..mostly geometric in style.

I decided to cut it up a bit for card backgrounds.

Sort of like serendipity pages.

20130321_1666I made these three cards and have some painted page left over for who knows what.

I did a few more background sheets that haven’t fired up my inspiration yet. I figure the more I push it…the less inspired I get.

In the mean time I’m getting more cards made. I found out today that I’ll be able to do another craft show in April. Nothing like a deadline to get me working!!

grace

I love a good quote as much as a good cup of tea. Yogi Tea gives me both.

This one is just perfect for today. I’ve been learning about grace…something I didn’t believe existed. Amazing the things we can see or hear when we just pay attention.

Little MeI fear my best option for digitizing the remaining 100 or so slides I have from my childhood might be this technique. Me, holding the slide up to the window and taking a photo against the bright white backdrop of our snow covered yard. I better to get to it since Spring is just around the corner….supposedly.

Then each of those photos will need to be cropped in Photoshop to a printable size. UGH!  That’s a lot of work but since I seriously can’t ever remember seeing any of these slides…ever, it will be worth the extra effort.

Yes, that little toe head is me. The slide says ’79 but I’m sure it was from a couple years before. More like Summer of ’77 if I’m correct with the location of the photo. I guess I was allergic to a hairbrush.  ;)  I’m surprised my beautician mom let me go around like that…much less get my picture taken.

Just a quick page in my Art Journal. The cold temps have me really longing for spring.

I’ve mentioned a time or two about how much I love making miniature terrain as well as how much I love recycling. This project encompasses both.

I spotted a rectangle of grey molded foam on the top of  laundry room garbage.  Of course, I had to grab it to see what it could become.20130311_1609

I broke and tore chunks off. Glued others on to make higher walls. Left bigger chunks to become rubble for my ruin.

In some spots, I used joint compound to smooth the transitions and cover my additions.20130311_1612

I gave the whole works a paint job to make it a cohesive piece.

I’m very happy with my trash to treasure transformation.

And the original packaging….

held an airsoft pistol.

If you look carefully you might be able to see it in the ruin.

The ruin is positioned in the same orientation as the original foam.

be true

Quick art journal page this morning.

Lots of layers and texture…

I decided to get brave and try making sushi at home after having been to a sushi party at a friend’s house.  I was able to get a lesson in making a roll as well as good advice on purchasing the fish and making the rice.

I picked up the equipment I needed this week such as the bamboo mat for making rolls.

The process definitely gets easier once you’ve made a couple rolls. I’m sure it’s like any skill. It must be practiced and honed to get it right.

Between the wasabi and the radish sprouts in this roll it was REALLY spicy. Clears out the sinuses, that’s for sure.

Of course since I’ve never done this before I had no idea how much to make. Yeah…I definitely made way more than we could eat.

We called up the neighbor to help us eat some.  I’ll certainly try it again but will make much less and try some other ingredients for fillings.
