So I did get inspired from sorting buttons. Not to actually used any of those buttons but by color.
I painted a 12×12 deep edge canvas with several shades of yellow. Then using a palette knife applied a bold wave of burgundy then some thin lines with the edge of the knife.
I knew I wanted a circle…I love circles for some reason. I knew I had a perfect piece of Citra Solv paper. I used gel medium to adhere it to the canvas.
It’ still needed something. I decided to try out beeswax over the top. I’ve always wanted to try it so why not right!
It wasn’t as easy to spread as I thought so I decided to get out the heat gun to try to smooth things out a bit.
After several minutes of fussing with it …melting,…cooling…melting some more…
I came up with my finished piece.
Or at least I think it’s finished… This is where I struggle…not knowing when enough is enough.
I love that the paper that once looked slightly out of place is now firmly set into the painting..looking as if it is “one with the canvas”.
Stop by Kimmie’s to see what the Tea Tuesday gals are doing today….maybe you’ll even see a teacup in a picture. :)
always fun coming by for tea! love your circle and wave piece!! happy tea day!
Very creative! Love it. Happy tea day today.
I haven’t tried beeswax yet, myself….you are so brave! I do love the look!
very cool piece Halle! I’m a big fan of beeswax, I love the extra dimension it adds. When to stop hmmm, if only that was easy… Mx
ooo super play…button sorting is a good thing!
Your canvas looks super Halle!
I find that when I have a fresh look in a day or two things are revealed or not and then I know the piece is finished ;)
beeswax is a wonderful finish…someone I know uses a craft iron to level the wax (like for embossing rubber stamps and velvet…the kind of iron with no holes on the bottom…a travel iron might fit the bill actually!) or wait maybe she puts it in a low heat oven! can’t remember hah!
you make me want to play!
Happy T Today!
oxo
i love playing with beeswax…one can do so much with it and yours looks great Halle!!! Happy artful week to you!!!
Super cool! Love the beeswax!
I’m a day late and a short person to boot. OK, that’s not how the saying goes, but what can I say? I was up for two days and finally went to bed. Surprised you didn’t call (grin).
What an awesome canvas. I love playing with beeswax, but like you, I have no iron, just a heat gun, which I found chased the wax all over the piece. That’s why I’ve resisted using beeswax. Love yours, though.
That yellow is one of my favorite colors … And so fitting for this time of year. I really like the simplicity of your composition too. Beeswax is amazing for making many things come together as one :)
How interesting that you are partial to circles …. I’ve been noticing lately that I love square shapes :)
I’m sorry I didn’t make it around to say hello yesterday – Just laid around feeling crumy and sorry for myself :) – today is a much better day though! Happy Wednesday! xoxo, Kimmie
