Yesterday we got together with Mr. G’s side of the family to celebrate the Spring birthdays. We went out to eat then visited over cake and ice cream at home.

Look at this beautiful bowl I got from my in-laws. She knows my love of pottery and is always on the lookout for a new piece for me. This one is from Frog Creek Pottery. I have no affiliation but thought I should tip my hat to them anyway for such a beautiful bowl.

My BIL and his GF gave me this really cool art yarn from Italy. I’m already planning on knitting an infinity scarf with it. It should be very fun and eclectic.

Lucky girl…that’s me. :)

My art ADD has come back in full force.  I have many different projects all in progress at the same time and in the same small space.

I’m reworking a canvas as another edition of my friend Sandy’s poem.

I finished a couple of crochet dishcloths this week. Neither one is perfect by an stretch of the imagination but I’m fine with that.

Journal page in progress. I’m trying to remember to leave this free of bulking embellishments as this spiral journal is filling fast and the pages will soon not turn on the tiny spiral if I keep up with the bulk.

In the past week I sold 3 pieces of terrain. I’m thrilled! It has inspired me to make more. I’ve been priming and trying out different combinations for my recycled pieces.

As well as playing around with foam and a plastic bottle. I love the challenge of making something out of nothing.  I’m hoping that this will look like a crashed vessel that has weathered over time.

See what I mean…all over the place! My mind is going this way and that. So many ideas, so little time and space.

journalI was about to chuck this book in the trash. Every time I made a journal page in this book, it was simply awful. It seemed as if the book was stealing my mojo.

This was a last ditch effort for the book. If I wasn’t happy today…it was going away in a really permanent fashion.

I think I’ll keep it around, at least for the time being.

I don’t know if I’m at liberty to show the poem on the canvas yet….hence the partial photo with words blurred.

My friend Sandy entered a poetry contest and won! Her poem is going to be published. She asked me if I’d do an art piece with her words.

The funny thing is that I had started this canvas became “stuck” at a certain point. I felt that it needed words.

Low and behold…the words fell into my lap.  After the words, I added a couple of collage pieces from an old children’s book I saved from the trash heap.

I hope she loves it as much as I do…

UPDATE:  She does love it!

Here’s a photo of the whole canvas

Saturday, we had sleet…briefly…but sleet, none the less.

Yesterday, I had my plants sunning on the deck in 50°F temps.20130512_1970

Just take a peek at the forecast for today and tomorrow!

I had the furnace on yesterday…looks like the A/C will be running tomorrow.

Never know what you’re going to get here in good old MN.

When we got the materials for our retreat they said that we’d be doing a tie dye project so we brought our pre-washed white shirts along.  I had anticipated standard tie dye…rubber bands, string and dipping in dye baths or squirt bottles.

tie dyeWhen we got to the building we found out that it was tie dye with Sharpie Markers and rubbing alcohol. I’ve wanted to try this technique since Elizabeth blogged about it. Of course, there are always so many techniques and so little time.

It’s a very simple process…you just make dots. Seriously. You can create what ever you want.  I’m sure you could draw as well but dragging the marker on the material isn’t always the easiest. We had a piece of cardboard between the layers of the shirt so it wouldn’t bleed through to the back.

We did learn that certain colors of Sharpies spread more than others. Not sure why. Also the bigger the dot…the more it spreads. As well as the more alcohol you put on the further is spreads.

Fun and much less messy process than dye baths.

I also wanted to say “thank you” once again to Patty for the wonderful birthday surprise. Look at the sweet package of goodies I came home to on Sunday.birthday gift

Patty was kind enough to share some of her “new” quilt pieces with me and one of her lovely looking and smelling lavender wands.
