This art journal page truly was a journal page…although after I spilled words all over the page in random thoughts I covered it up or at least obscured the writing enough as not to be read.  The words were just for me and once written they could be forgotten. A mind dump, if you will.

The page has so many layers…I went in with a thought and then took it too far…way to busy of background. I just kept at it until it felt right. I used a Pitt pen and white gesso to create the striped lines.

Washi tape has been a go-to supply lately. I like to tear it before applying to the page so it appears more random…spreading a bit of paint over the washi helps to push it into the background and make a more cohesive look.

My love affair with circles shines through on this page. I have saved caps from bottles and jars in a variety of sizes that I dip into paint for mark making. The imperfection of these marks is the beauty to me.

Art Journal Journey

I had so much fun making this page! It didn’t go the way I planned…like at all but in reality I didn’t have much of a plan. I’m really enjoying blue and orange lately. I used gelatos over the top of a scrappy background that was glued down with ModPodge. I’m not a fan of this glue but I’m using what I have. The thing I do like is that once the surface is sealed with the ModPodge the gelatos move and blend so beautifully. That being said…if you don’t then seal them down with something they will just keep on moving and blending with subsequent layers. So I tried something…I used a foam brush and gently covered the page with another coat of the ModPodge. Shockingly it worked…other than the surface is a very plastic feel. Yet I pressed on.

I added black craft paint through a stencil then some washi tape. I ended up using the washi tape to cover some words I was originally planning to use. They fit in the beginning but by the end my thoughts had changed.

This sticker felt right and I couldn’t agree more. I added a bit of scribbling randomly around the page and a bit of journalling before calling this page a done deal.

Art Journal Journey

Linking up with Art Journal Journey today for the November theme of Collage….but no faces, wings or leaves are allowed. It’s funny how often those things are used in my collages…and I’m sure many others have that same issue. :)

Today for Second on the 2nd I’m sharing a second look at rusted fabric. This was the first time I tried this technique and was quite pleased with the results. Since then I’ve rusted more fabric and even some watercolor paper.

Take a look…

I just couldn’t wait any longer. I had to unwrap the fabric.

I’m going to leave them to dry in the yard for a little while.

Just look at all the rusty goodness…

And this…

Love it!!

My question now is…do I rinse the fabric or leave it as is? I love the look of it right now but don’t want to endanger myself or others if it should be rinsed.

I did end up rinsing the fabric at the urging of Elizabeth…it faded a bit but was still quite glorious. This post reminds me that I need to ask Mr. G for some more scrap metal that I can use for rusting.

I’ll have to be quick this morning…I’m heading out to get my mom for a shopping expedition. My list is made…hopefully hers is too.

list and coffee

Hope everyone had a nice Halloween. We almost ran out of candy even after going back and buying a second bag last minute. The number of kids at the door doubled from last year. I guess the neighborhood is changing….lots of new families with younger kids.

Several of you commented on my photo from yesterday with all the pumpkins. Mr. G was able to bring them home from the auto shop next door to his for free. They’d had an event and ended up with about 50 leftovers that they were begging to get rid of. Score!! Now is the chore of digging all the seeds out to roast…love them but hate the stringy, smelly insides.

Our beautiful maple tree that is valiantly attempting to hang onto its leaves long after most are bare…

inspired me to create another art journal page yesterday.

I was also inspired to try some new things after watching several Journal on Monday videos by France Papillon. In some of her videos she uses a page from outside her journal just as I am…then attaches it later. This leaves you open to much wider possibilities.

Of course not being able to choose just one new technique to try…I did several.  I love the added texture and dimension. The more I work on loose pages for my scrapbook journal, the more I like it. I’m not saying it will be my only way of journalling but it does provide me more freedom.

I’m linking up for the last time this month with Art Journal Journey.

Art Journal Journey

It seems I’ve fallen into my card making phase again. Every fall I tend to start making cards. I’m not sure what exactly triggers this but I do have fun with it. I don’t do a dozen of the same design…heck I hardly even do two of the same. I know it would make it much easier on myself to make them in volume but wheres the challenge in that.

group of cards

I like using scrappy bits from other projects and my sewing machine. Stitching just gives such great texture to the cards.  I’ve got a half dozen more waiting for words. Those are actually more of a series. I’ll share as soon as I finish them. Hopefully I won’t get too distracted between now and then.

Neighborhood that is.  Over the weekend one of our neighbors hosted a chili cook off.  Eight years ago the same family hosted a similar get together but our numbers have drastically changed in that time period. The majority of the kids are either gone off to college or working now…although we have added to the adult total with new families.

chili

My white turkey chili was not the winner but I’m not at all sad. It was a fun day!

A couple days previous to the party I returned a scoring plate that I had borrowed form my crafty next door neighbor.  One of these days I actually finish the card I started using the board. Anyway…I never come away empty handed from her house. She has a vast network of folk that are always looking out for each other and trading this and that.

goodies

She had a huge bag of stamps for me to look through, bottle caps from a former co-worker that saves them for me and some tea her DIL didn’t want. Look at the awesome stamps! Can’t wait to play in an art journal with them. The Passion tea by Tazo is a favorite of mine. The Calm I’ll likely use for tea dyeing as I don’t care for chamomile but I do enjoy lemon!!

I’ve also been working on a couple…well, three, oh maybe four projects over the past couple of days. As soon as they come together I’ll be sure to share. To my T Tuesday gals…sorry I never made it around last week…Tuesday got away from me with numerous things including these….

busy-night

Mini-me’s first season of competitive volleyball is done with the exception of the end of season banquet. Choir concert season has just begun for J. The concert was wonderful.  Did I mention they will be traveling to Manhattan in the spring to sing at Carnegie Hall!?!  So excited for them.

Today’s schedule has yet to be determined for me. It’s kind of nice to have a fairly blank slate for a change.
