Just a silly little found text story I created….the madman

I finally had a bit of inspiration for my coffee theme AB (altered book).

coffee anyone

The circles up the side are free hand cuts from security envelopes. The coffee image drove the repetition of the circles.

sugar rush tea

We have way too much sugar left over from Easter. Thank goodness I don’t like marshmallows or these would be dangerous sitting all unwrapped begging to be eaten.

sugar rushThis is my weakness…chocolate.

“My weakness is strong.” ~Patton Oswalt

Maybe fueled by sugar or just that spring cleaning and purging mode but I have dug out a box of items that have been squirreled away for far too long.

sellingBack in the late 90’s I used to sell on eBay. This box was forgotten in the back of our storage room until now.  I also went thru my cookbook collection…some of it just has to go. Recently I’ve started selling a few things on eBay again but the fee structure is pretty steep. But you can’t sell just anything on Etsy.

painting

I did get creative this past week as well. This 6×6 canvas makes me quite happy. Its a recycled canvas…meaning I hated the first painting I did so I covered it all up and began anew.

I’ve also worked in my coffee theme AB again but you’ll have to come back tomorrow if you want to see that.

I’ve got lots on my list today, more than I’ll ever accomplish.

What are you doing today?

SecondlookSince it is April and we’ll be honoring Earth Day as well as Elizabeth’s birthday on the 22nd, I thought it was fitting to take a second look at one of my favorite recycling projects.

The original post was from September 18, 2008. Incidentally, this quilt is still in use on the boy’s bed even though all 5’10” of him no longer fits underneath it.

Lets take a second look at the post…

eyes

I finished sewing the quilt yesterday morning. I would have been done on Tuesday night but first I put the bobbin in wrong then broke a needle and then put the new needle in backwards so it kept breaking the thread. It was very frustrating. I knew then that it was just time to be done for the day.

After the sewing, I had to clip each seam allowance every half inch then wash it so it would fray after washing. The nylon stocking that serves as my filter on my washing machine outlet had a large fist size ball of frayed denim and flannel in it. Then the dryer lint trap was even more full of fluff. I would have taken it to a laundry mat but we don’t have any around here anymore. It’s a 20 min drive to the closest one.

There are several things I love about this quilt:

  1. All the flannel is from my maternity tops and my boy’s flannels from when he was very small.
  2. The denim is from both mine and my hubby’s old jeans. Together we’ve lost about 50lbs!!
  3. The “batting” I used was scraps of polar fleece that I got for free from someone’s “project gone wrong”
  4. This blanket is fairly heavy! This provides good sensory comfort for my boy. He needs/loves heavy blankets to help him sleep through the night.

T stands for Tuesday_200Welcome to another edition of T stands for Tuesday hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. It’s time to share a beverage and talk about what ever the heck is on your mind!water for tea tuesday

Holy cow!! We’ve definitely had a week to remember…or at minimum…an early morning to remember. We found out that our volunteer fire dept has a really good response at 6:20 in the morning. And we didn’t even have a fire…just needed EMT’s.  They just kept walking through my front door. I won’t go into the details but no transport was needed and all is fine now.

After commenting to friend about all the men in my livingroom that morning I saw this on Pinterest and it made me laugh!!

And back to normalcy. I created a cover page or perhaps it would be the title page for my latest journal. I decided to leave the name of the original owner of the book. It gives the book more history in my mind.

My seedlings are doing really well. I picked up an herb pot at Trader Joe’s and have placed it inside the protective plastic bin as well to keep it safe from you know who. Naughty Miss Gracie.

I also got the pink streak put in my hair again.  halfThe kids are on Spring Break this week. We are enjoying a mellow week at home. Little J and I saw Cinderella yesterday. It was pretty good. More sad than the animated version but not as dark as the original fairy tale.

I’m not sure what the rest of today has in store yet. That’s the beauty of vacation right?!?

What are you doing today?

About 6 weeks ago I wrapped some strips of an old dishtowel around a couple of rusty brake shoes and rust flakes. You can read all about it hererust results

Two of the three had some great orange color all the way through. The third…not so much. I’m thinking that one didn’t get much of the vinegar I splashed into the bag on it therefore it didn’t rust as much.

This is how they looked before rinsing. I let them hang dry in the garage so it would be easier to brush off the rusty bits before doing the final rinse in the house. Too cold in the garage yet for that.rusted fabric

Again two of the three are nice. I’ll likely only use bits of the mostly white piece. Or perhaps ask for a “new” hunk of metal from Mr. G so I can re-rust it.

T stands for Tuesday rolls around all too quickly each week! I feel like I’m playing catch up all the time. moody tea

I thought I’d give you a little update on life around here.

20150323_7477

Not much has changed with the seeds I’ve started other than the view outside is a little white. We got about 4″ of snow which is actually good since we were under a red flag fire warning. 20150323_7478

If you look really closely you can see a few little bits of green popping through the soil.

I also wanted to share about Little J’s surgery. It went really well. She is up and around almost as if nothing had ever happened. She is even going to school today a mere 3 days after knee surgery. Crazy!! Miracles of modern medicine and the resiliency of youth!!
