T Tuesday: many things edition

Last updated : February 5, 2020

This post will be a jumble…so many things in so many directions. That’s my life right now. Some days I feel a little more scattered than others. When I’m having a scattered day I am trying to be mindful and prioritize, slow down when possible and forgive myself for not vacuuming.

I finally set up my sewing machine in J’s room. Not really sure what took me so long to get back to it… perhaps lost creative mojo.

Quilting

marvin being helpful

Now that my machine is in a usable space I got out the scrappy quilt top I made before Christmas. I settled on a tie-dye fabric from my stash for the backing. As soon as I laid the quilt on the floor for basting, my helper showed up.

Making the bed is pretty much his favorite activity…well maybe eating and sleeping are tied for first then making the bed.  Of course, he doesn’t understand that laying the quilt out nice and flat and smooth, keeping it all inline are an integral part of the process.

Teaset pincushion

Since this desk overlooks the front yard, it’s a perfect spot for Marvin to do a bit of bird watching. With that in mind, I decided that the standard tomato pincushion wasn’t the right choice…looks a little too much like a ball.

teacup pin cushion

I made this teacup pincushion a while back and have finally put it to use. I love that the cup sits slightly off-center on the saucer. When I first noticed this mistake I was upset but now I realize that this is a good thing. The off-center placement allows for more useful space for sewing tools at the ready.

Week of appreciation

para appreciation week

Last week was declared Paraprofessional appreciation week by Governer Walz. Our school went all out making us feel appreciated in so many ways. Puny gifts, signs on our lockers, cards, and breakfast but honestly, the most meaningful one was drawing and note from a student that I wasn’t sure I was making an impact with.

Archery

Archery season is upon us. I love this season even with the distance we travel most Saturdays. It gives Mini-me and I some quality time in the car.

Birthday Boy

reading to friends

J turned 20 years old today!! TWENTY!! So crazy. It was hard not to be with him today. I was very distracted with thoughts of him throughout the day. I just wanted to hop in the van and drive to Duluth. I’ll be calling him shortly when his class is over…but it’s just not the same.

What else…oh yeah…I dyed my hair…mostly the underside…purple. Well…technically eggplant. Yep…totally went for it. It’s really fun and I love it. The family had a bit of a hard time getting used to it but I think they have now. If you take a peek at my about me page, you will see the new look.

What are you doing today?

Wow, so glad you are sewing again. I’m sure Marvin will be very appreciative of the new quilt, if only he gets off it long enough for you to finish it!

That’s a great new pin cushion. I actually like that the tea cup is off center with the saucer. And you found the perfect use for it, too. It makes a great T day item, too.

Happy birthday to J. I hope he knows how much you miss him. At least you and mini-me have quality time together for a few more years.

I LOVE your hair. It doesn’t look all that purple to me. It’s NOT bright purple like I envisioned.

Thanks for sharing your active life and activities with us, as well as your beautiful new teacup pin cushion for T this Tuesday, dear friend.

Good for you to be so brave and color your hair with some purple. I have wanted to do a bit of color but have never been brave enough. And you’ve been a busy lady but sounds like life is good. I hope you don’t feel too old with your son turning 20. It is tough when they get to that point, isn’t it? Hugs-ERika

I love the offset tea cup and plate sets. My daughter collects them. They come in different sizes with different shapes for the plates, and she uses them for light lunches and desserts. Yours does make the perfect pincushion :)

Purple sounds perfect. I went green for a while, and I got such a kick out of it :)

    Happy T Day :)

Your quilt looks beautiful, and I like how your “helper” showed up. That tea cup pin cushion is a great idea. It’s nice that the student who you thought you might not be making an impact with made you that lovely gift card. I always enjoy hearing about mini-me and her archery. With regard to J turning 20, it’s amazing how fast time flies by. I looked at your About Me page, and the purple seems to blend in nicely. Happy belated T-Day!

Congratulations on J’s 20 birthday. How time flies!
I love your purple hair. It is not too purple either. Just right. My daughter has done something similar. When she told me I dreaded it, but when I saw it I thought it was beautiful.
I smiled at Marvin on the quilt.
The note from the student is so lovely. Very touching. I don’t know what you do exactly but obviously you teach.
    Have a lovely weekend,
(It’s too late to say ‘Happy T-Day’)
    Hugs,

Marvin does look happy to be helping! I love the pincushion….and the saucer…room for a biscuit!! Your hair looks great – just enough colour! It’s great to find that you are making an impact on that student! After I retired I bumped into an ex student of mine and he recalled a memory of something I had long forgotten and then told me that he cooked it regularly for his wife! It was a lasagne that we cooked and ate in class – it made my day that not only did he remember but still used the recipe! A very belated Happy T Day, Chrisx
