Frugal frame fix. Say that five times fast!

Last summer I picked up a cool frame at an occasional shop not too far from here. I had the thought of stringing wire or perhaps even chicken wire (dang, just thought of that now) to create a changeable photo gallery piece.

I’ve reserved one section of wall for family photos, caricatures and memorabilia in the game area of our family room.  This is an always changing wall, which I love.

Since the wall is so busy and colorful on it’s own I felt that black frames were the way to go.

Of course I never remember to wear gloves….

I’m pretty sure at any given time I have paint on me somewhere…whether its on my hands, nails, hair or clothes one just never knows.

This morning I got my supplies ready so I could finally get this project off the game table.

I stapled the bent wire across the frame on the back then curled each end to lock it into place.

Easy peasy right… One would think so. This was only after making my first mistake did I realize that I had to staple to the side wall of the frame…not straight down.

Crud…the staple went right through the front of the frame. Oh well, nothing a little bit of black paint won’t fix.

Perfect.

I’m thinking I may keep a box of favorite photos right here so it will be easy to switch them out.

After Christmas I decided to really change up the fireplace mantel from my standard color scheme. I usually stick with warm colors but was definitely ready for a change.

After a month of feeling as if something was missing I decided to make a decorative ball to set on top of my stoneware pitcher.

I used a 2.5 inch foam ball as my base. I cut a dress pattern into roughly 2 inch squares.

I stacked 2 in a crisscross manner then put a pencil into the center. I then dipped the tips into white glue and pressed the tip into the foam ball. I continued this until the entire ball was covered. 20150205_7433

I think it looks a bit like a dried hydrangea sitting on top.

We had a wonderful Christmas!
Family over for both Christmas Eve and Day.
Laughed lots, ate too much, made a mess opening gifts, played games and visited until my throat was scratchy.
I had to  show you one of the centerpieces from our table. I saw this on Pinterest and loved it. So bright and early Christmas morning I stepped outside to trim some greens from the bushes. I’m sure any neighbors that spotted me though I was nuts. It was 0°F at the time.
Greens in a mason jar…add water and fresh cranberries which are ever so kind to float.
Drop in a floating candle. Ta-da…
Simple and festive.
