This is not a new technique for me. I’ve rusted fabric in the past. The only difference is that is was summer and much more pleasant to be outside.  The random results of rusted fabric have always appealed to me. I felt as if it was time to make some more. I keep my rusty bits in the shed safely bagged up. Since I was already outside attempting to scrape the driveway free of ice, sleet and snow..it was the perfect time to make a few rust bundles.

I brought out a torn dishcloth as fodder for my project. I used my ice covered garbage can as a work surface…not ideal but it worked. It was just too darn cold to bother setting up a proper table.

After this round of rusting my brake shoes will need to be replaced. Luckily I have a good source for those. :)

For my final and smallest bundle I emptied all the rusty bits left in the plastic bag down the center and rolled it up.

Two bundles I tied and the third I just tucked the loose end inside.

I placed all 3 bundles in a new plastic bag and added what ever snow and ice I could scrape off the top of the garbage cans for moisture. The bundle will live in the garage until I get too inpatient to wait any longer. I’ll be sure to share the results.

I must add that you need to wear gloves when handling rust.

Was that a confusing title or what?!?  But it is accurate. Thanks to my friend Patty, I now have a quick and easy way to make a collage or mosaic of photos… The program is called pixlr and I just love it!card collage2 card collage1These are just few of the cards I’ve made as of late.  I’d been slacking a bit on my etsy store inventory but figured it was time to get back at it.

I’ve been at it again. Sewing bits and pieces together. This time I broke out some colored card stock for inspiration.20140516_4853 20140516_4854I added sentiments to this batch. I don’t seem to be running out out scraps any time soon so I’m sure there will be more.

These are my favorites…20140516_4842 20140516_4846 20140516_4848 20140516_4851

I put some finishing touches on about half of the mini collages I’ve made over the last couple of days. They are addictive to make.

20140426_4636The rest I think should go on colored card stock and I didn’t have any of that cut, folded and ready to go.  Plus I’ll likely match each collage to particular paper before cutting.

These are my favorites from this batch of cards.20140426_4647 20140426_4648 20140426_4659 20140426_4649 20140426_4661The flowers just seem to dress them up in a perfect way.

I had so much fun making the first journal spread yesterday, I went back for another.WednesdayOnce again I worked in my white journal.  Boy, I just realized that I have 4 journals going at once. And I have an idea for yet another. I should probably wait on that idea at least until I fill one of the currents to capacity.Wednesday textureTissue paper was used as a start for this page as well. It had been crumpled over and over again. Lots of tiny little creases. It started out very purple…or maybe violet. The color was a little too “in your face” for my taste. I used a couple of mists around the edges to tone it down to a dull roar.. The aqua washi tape begged me to use it with the new deeper shade of purple. The black and white just helped everything else pop on the page. I have this thing about circles…I use them all the time. They just make me happy I guess.

So last evening I still hadn’t had enough creativity for the day. My sewing machine was still calling me.  I grabbed bits and pieces of fabric, paper, fiber and trims to sew together for collage cards. I didn’t give it much thought…just went for it.collage card marathon I made 21 mini collages that will eventually become greeting cards. Some will be left blank…others will have sentiments…some collages may not make the cut. Who cares…it was all scraps and bits laying around.

I went the whimsical way today…I was attempting to lift my mood a bit. The weather is darn cold again and it’s got me a little down.

summer flowersThis also reminds me that I better get my seeds started. I usually start what I can indoors right about St. Patrick’s Day and I haven’t gotten it done yet…I’m falling behind!

I’m beginning to feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day. Every day I get up and its the same thing….freezing cold temps and the kids are home from school.  Today marks the 5th day this month that school has been canceled due to dangerously low temperature and windchill. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they are safe at home but everyone is starting to get a bit stir crazy. I was reminded yesterday that the wind chill scale changed several years ago to sound a little warmer. Yesterday, for instance, we had windchill of -46°F.  On the old scale that would have been -71°F. Brrrr.   If you getting tired of me complaining about the cold, I thought I’d share this article….These 20 U.S. Cities Are Allowed To Complain About The Cold …since we are #1.

Lets all think some warm happy thoughts.

winter bloomsAh that’s better. My Christmas cactus says “screw you winter….I’m going to spread some joy with my blossoms.” Okay, okay…I don’t actually hear it talking to me..thank goodness. Otherwise you’d know how stir crazy we are all getting.

Being indoors has had me crafting a bit.

yo yo yo Sewing more yo-yos in a slighter bigger size. I’m thinking about making a throw pillow cover.

Also working a bit in my journal. Here are a couple of work-in-progress shots.

WIPWIP2Still not sure where I’m heading with it so I just keep adding layers.

round is a shapeAnd what would a T stands for Tuesday post be without a furry feline?! Miss Gracie doing what she does best…well, maybe second best. Hmmm…maybe I should say this is her third favorite activity after eating and sleeping. Speaking of eating..had to share this photo.

what dietGracie fed herself yesterday morning. I couldn’t figure out why she let me sleep so late until I got into the kitchen. A head-size hole chewed into her food bag. Notice that the hole is right next to “weight control formula”. Yeah…guess she’s not in the least bit concerned about being out of shape. ;)

Stay warm and safe everyone!!

LATE EDIT: See I was so addled in the brain I even forgot to include my tea for T stands for Tuesday…good thing Elizabeth isn’t a stickler for rules. :)
