T Tuesday: cabin fever edition

I’m beginning to feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day. Every day I get up and its the same thing….freezing cold temps and the kids are home from school. Today marks the 5th day this month that school has been canceled due to dangerously low temperature and windchill. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they are safe at home but everyone is starting to get a bit stir crazy. I was reminded yesterday that the wind chill scale changed several years ago to sound a little warmer. Yesterday, for instance, we had windchill of -46°F. On the old scale that would have been -71°F. Brrrr. If you getting tired of me complaining about the cold, I thought I’d share this article….These 20 U.S. Cities Are Allowed To Complain About The Cold …since we are #1.

Lets all think some warm happy thoughts.

Ah that’s better. My Christmas cactus says “screw you winter….I’m going to spread some joy with my blossoms.” Okay, okay…I don’t actually hear it talking to me..thank goodness. Otherwise you’d know how stir crazy we are all getting.

Being indoors has had me crafting a bit.

Sewing more yo-yos in a slighter bigger size. I’m thinking about making a throw pillow cover.

Also working a bit in my journal. Here are a couple of work-in-progress shots.

Still not sure where I’m heading with it so I just keep adding layers.

And what would a T stands for Tuesday post be without a furry feline?! Miss Gracie doing what she does best…well, maybe second best. Hmmm…maybe I should say this is her third favorite activity after eating and sleeping. Speaking of eating..had to share this photo.

Gracie fed herself yesterday morning. I couldn’t figure out why she let me sleep so late until I got into the kitchen. A head-size hole chewed into her food bag. Notice that the hole is right next to “weight control formula”. Yeah…guess she’s not in the least bit concerned about being out of shape. ;)

T Tuesday: handmade edition

Thanks for joining me for another edition of T stands for Tuesday brought to us by Elizabeth at Altered book lover.

Today is my typical kind of Tuesday…busy, busy, busy. I always make time for a good breakfast though. Poached egg on toast is my favorite. With coffee, of course.

Today though I have a bit of a different schedule. I have my job orientation! I’m very excited to be starting this new phase of my life.

Over the past week I’ve been very domestic. I cooked a pie pumpkin that yielded 7 cups of pumpkin puree. I’ve made 2 pies, 2 large loaves of pumpkin bread and a batch of pumpkin chia pudding.

I’ve also been sewing quite a bit. I’ve been upcycling some stained or torn vintage linens. As well as using up scraps for additional projects. More on all that in a later post.

Miss Gracie has been keeping me company, that is when she isn’t busy watching for critters out the window.

I’m off to start my day now but I’ll be back later to visit all my blogging friends.

A magical place

I wish I had a time lapse of this journal page. It went through many different stages and colors before arriving at the finished product. This definitely made the background rich and with great depth.

The words were an afterthought…but they fit just perfectly to me. When I rip pages out of my journals to reduce bulk, I often look for phrases that speak to me. I cut them out and save them for a future project. I never pick the words beforehand….always after I have set the paintbrush down.

Whenever I go outside to photograph my art for the blog I have an assistant who likes to tag along.

She really isn’t much help. In fact, she is usually a distraction as I must keep one eye on her so she doesn’t get into trouble.

It usually works out best when she finds a nice sunny spot to get her daily dose of vitamin D.

Oh, the life of a spoiled cat.

SNOW DAY!!

The two best words when you are a kid.

I don’t mind getting a call at 5:45AM when it’s that kind of news. Always makes I heart skip a beat until I know what it is though.

We’ve been out and cleared round one of the snow but it’s coming down pretty fierce again.

I had to get out the heavy machinery. I like using the snow blower, to be completely honest. But there’s always cleaning up to be done with the shovels anyway. Good thing I had two helpers today. :)
