A while back I made this “Live, Laugh, Love” sign from a $2 garage sale frame and canvas. I was never satisfied with it. I ripped the flowers off and covered it with gesso. Today I decided that a sign for the kitchen night be fun instead.

I am so much happier about this one than the other.

Here’s my completed painting on a 16×20 canvas.

I feel like the painting is a little weighty on the left. I need to balance it somehow. I’m going to give it a break for a bit and see what pops into my head.

The painting is starting to look more like my vision…got to wait for this layer to dry. Guess I’ll have some lunch.

I’ve had this vision of a painting I have wanted to do for a long time so I’m finally taking the plunge. The inspiration came from a TV show set backdrop…I wish I could remember which one.

Last night I grabbed a canvas that had the start of something else on it and began drawing.

I got the wall color blocked in before bed and did the window glass, the brick mortar and the base coat on the table so far today.

I hope to get a little more painting in today but it is VERY cold in the basement and will only get worse as the weekend wears on…we a in a deep freeze for the next few days…highs at aren’t expected to reach zero Fahrenheit all weekend and wind chills are -40F and lower.

I’ll keep posting my progress…keep in mind this is only the 2nd painting I’ve ever done. The first was a portrait…I’m pretty sure I covered over it with something else because the eyes were just too scary.

I completed my pages for the latest book I received in my current round robin.

The original drawings from the book were hand-painted by me with watercolor crayons. The chopsticks were shorten by breaking then shaping them in a pencil sharpener before a slight bit of whittling and sanding.

The bamboo was drawn then painted by yours truly. The fortune reads “The luck that is ordained for you will be coveted by others”

I’ve never done any Asian themed art before…at least not consciously. I did do a mixed-media painting a while back that ended up having an Asian flare.

This is a very powerful piece for me. I had no idea what I had in mind when I sat down to create today. I had this old canvas laying around that I had covered over an unattractive collage with gesso. I grabbed it and started playing. This piece just sort of evolved from things I had laying around. Maybe it was a release for me…we’ve had some ups and downs lately. Hopefully everything is on the right track again…
