Last week I mentioned that Mini-me and I had traveled to Duluth immediately after her return from Costa Rica. She was participating in the state archery tournament.

We drove up on Friday and went straight to J’s apartment since he goes to college in same city. We took him shopping and to eat before leaving him back home and heading to our hotel. It’s a new hotel in the same harbor area of the historic town of Duluth, MN.

This was a view out our hotel room window. According to the in-room brochure, the silos were used for powdered cement storage. They kept them when developing the site for historic value.

Mini-me and I enjoyed some lovely appetizers as a late night meal as we enjoyed the view.

After our meal we ran back up to the room and grabbed a coat before venturing out for a walk since we were on the south side of the lift bridge…a view we hadn’t ever had the opportunity to enjoy.

Little did we know that they had a nightly bonfire with free s’mores!

The next morning we set off for the tournament. Mini-me’s coach gave her a nickname that has absolutely nothing to do with her actual name but has stuck…at least with her archery folk.

I decided that she should really have it on her bow case. I used my silhouette to create a vinyl sticker with her new namesake. Her coach laughed so dang hard…totally worth it!!

Yesterday I actually got creative….I made about a dozen cards.

After going through a bunch of my craft stuff and bringing it to my neighbor to share I was inspired by my conversation with her to make more cards. She has and a group to locals have “adopted” many deployed troops for years. Writing letters, sending supplies, gifts and treats. One thing she said they always want is cards to send home. Sending cards and letters home helps pass the time. And really…who doesn’t love a good old piece of snail mail from a real person!!

I decided right then and there to set some time aside to make some cards. It’s beneficial for me AND them. I get to stretch my creative muscles which evidently are going unused too often and they get a few cards to mail home.

This week is really up in the air for us…Today is was nearly 70°F and Weds-Fri we could get anywhere from 6-24 inches of snow. Crazy!!! This winter just won’t quit.

What are you doing today?

Ok this is one of those crazy days that happens…we have a crossover post.

Honestly its likely a good thing because I have so many things to talk about but have nothing prepared and I’m already late to the party. How does that happen?

Anyway…Mini-me made it back from Costa Rica on Thursday evening…we left for Duluth the next morning. Busy weekend then back to school on Monday. WHEW!! What a crazy few days.

I’ll share more about all that in another post but I thought I’d at least share a bit about the coffee Mini-me brought home the Doka Coffee Plantation.

I borrowed this photo from Twitter of the group tossing the raw beans in the air.

This is one that we’ve opened and tried. It’s very good. It seems to me that the caffeine content might be a bit higher than what we usually drink. We haven’t tried the other kind she brought back yet.

Now on to Second on the 2nd….

I have been attempting to join more challenges lately. Before I rejoined the workforce I participated in challenges regularly and it really kept my creativity flowing. Here’s a post from on of those fun challenges I did way back when.

Take a look….

Sage and SepiaThis is the last week of Summer of Color! I can hardly believe it.

This is the color combo I’ve been voting for each week. The strange thing is now that I got it…I had trouble making it work. The photo color is a bit off for the green but my “Photoshop fu” is off this morning.

I painted the background with sage then distressed it a bit.  After adding the sepia elements, I used some white rub-ons for visual interest. The bride and groom are my maternal grandparents circa 1929.

Incidentally, this is my 1000th post! WHOA! That’s a lot of blogging. Thanks to everyone who continues to read. I love it when you leave comments to let me know that you’ve been here.

Thanks for stopping by my twofer post today!

What are you doing today?

Spring comes a bit later here in Minnesota…not by calendar but weather. Its ok…we’ll muddle through. We’ve had rain and snow…fog and sun…shoulder high snow piles and ankle deep puddles. And that was just Thursday.

**Ba da dum…I’ll be here all week.**

The last week was Spring break for J, so he was home for 9 days. Of course, the rest of us were still busy with work and school. The visit felt very brief but the semester will be over before we know it!

Yesterday after returning J to the bus stop at Mall of America, I made a bit of time to do a bit of creating.

Not exactly sure where this page is going but perhaps I’ll know when I sit back down. Sometimes a fresh eye helps.

This week will also brings a big trip for Mini-me. She is heading to Costa Rica on a choir and band trip. Such an amazing experience for her…such a scary cutting of the cord for me. They are preforming 3 times in three separate areas of the country along with a ton of fun activities such as horseback riding, zipline tours, a volcano hike and a beach day. An action packed week.

I may have to give up coffee during the week so my nerves aren’t quite as frayed.

What are you doing today?

Hello and welcome to another edition of T Stands for Tuesday!

Lately when its not frigid or snowing, I’ve been doing a bit of thrift store shopping. Mini-me has gone a few times as well. She has found some really awesome clothes for herself. Me…not so much in the clothing department but I have found some craft supplies and home decor items.

Such as this cute word pillow for the couch. I love it!

I also picked up this lovely red tray and the craft supplies in it. Frankly I don’t know if I’ll use the cards as craft supplies but they were so cute and reminded me of my childhood. They were a must have for me.

Speaking of supplies…I finally finished the tea in this tin! I’ve been wanting to use the tin in my craft room as an organizer. Now if I could just remember my original intention for it. :)

Since today was a workshop day for teachers, Mini-me and I had the day off. Marvin was very confused. He likes routines. He spent the day taking turns following each of us around the house, curiously watching.

BTW–Mini-me did really great in her tournament over the weekend. She once again shot a personal best. A whole 21 points higher than the previous week. And get this…she shot left handed after shooting right handed for over a year.

You can see her shooting left on this side at the most recently…as opposed to right at all previous tournaments. Crazy huh? And yes, Mini-me has almost waist length hair.

Tuesday has work, archery (thrifting time for me) and an evening meeting. It’s going to be a long day!

What are you doing today?

Hello and welcome back! I haven’t posted anything in two weeks! Yikes! My creativity is in a slump. I think there are just too many other things on my to-do list that the creative side of me doesn’t get a chance.

That isn’t to say I haven’t done anything creative…just not post worthy at least singularly. Since we had yet another big storm roll through last week we had a snow day on Wednesday. Before beginning the snow removal process I got out my Silhouette and added a vinyl name plate to my school Chromebook. My old one bit the dust after it was knocked off a table. I was issued a replacement…the only trouble is that it looks identical to all the kids.

Not anymore….now I want to add a little more bling just for fun.

Meanwhile the winter storm raged on outside. We got 9.5 inches at our house. There was so much snow that we were running out places to put it. Plus Mr. G had pulled a giant drift off the roof onto the deck. He shocked the heck out of me when he dragged the snowblower up the deck stairs and carefully used it to get rid of the majority of the snow.

After all that it was definitely time for a warm beverage.

Mini-me had another archery tournament and scored her personal best on Saturday.

This weekend our school is hosting a tournament. That means there is lots of work to do for all the kids…and us parents as well.

Yesterday afternoon was spent baking and bagging cookies to sell.  I knew our week was going to be too hectic to do any baking after work. Now to resist the temptation all week….exactly the reason I bagged them all up right away. I know me….my weakness is strong, to quote Patton Oswalt.

What are you doing today?

Well boys and girls…not sure if we have any boys visiting but I’m all inclusive…it’s story time.

This week was eventful. We had more snow once again. This week we had a 2 hour early release on Thursday afternoon and a 2 hour late start on Friday morning. We never should have had school on Friday. The roads were glare ice. So slippery that I managed to spin out our Jeep across on coming traffic and end up with the back end in the ditch. Thankfully we didn’t hit another car and I was able to put the 4 wheel drive to good use by driving back out of the ditch. With frazzled nerves I continued on to drop the girls off at school and get myself to my school. UGH! So lucky. Could have been a much worse end to that story.

J also came home for the weekend to celebrate his birthday. We had cake…of course it might have been good if i’d remembered to take a before photo.

Whoa…not sure what happened with that image but I’m too far along and too tired to go fix it. One of my custom brushes must have gotten away from me. :)

I have been doing some work in Photoshop over this past week. I’ve been wanting to create some texture backgrounds. I hope to use them as overlays on photos, backgrounds, starting points for digi-art etc.

I even thought about making some printables with ephemera, photos or even vintage linens for texture.  Do you ever use printables in your art? If so, are they purchased or freebies? I see tons of digital downloads on etsy but I wonder if people actually buy them or use them.

Welcome to T stands for Tuesday! Last week was a cold one…record breaking. It was a crazy week for school as well. We started out Monday with a 2 hr late start due to snow. Then had 3 days off due to extreme cold. Friday was normal. Check out this little collage of images from my house.

I had ice on my wall next to the front door. All the windows were iced up…even the nail heads of the trim were frozen. The cold was desperate to get in. So much tea was drank…so much…of course, no picture because I’m forgetful sometimes.

Friday we had a normal day of school. Saturday Mini-me had an archery tournament in the morning.

She did well and is looking forward to the next tournament in a couple weeks. The day actually got so warm that I grilled steaks! Of course the deck had to be shoveled to even get to the grill but…details, details. Yummy grilled steak is totally worth it!

This morning we awoke to icy conditions but had our regularly scheduled work and school for all of us. The poor neighbor girl fell down her front steps on the way to our house from the glaze of ice. Several people fell at both schools I have contact with. Bad news!! I’m thankful I did the penguin shuffle and made it without incident.

Today is also J’s 19th birthday! It’s the first one I haven’t spent with him. *sniff* He is planning to come home next weekend so at least we won’t have to wait too long to give him a birthday hug!

I did a little journal work today but I think I’ll save that for tomorrow.

I am going to try and upload a video flip through I did over the weekend. The end got cut off when my phone started to ring but hey that’s life. Fingers crossed I did this properly again. I’m really thinking I need to just upload to YouTube…I’m just not sure I want to deal with all the haters out there. Everyone’s a critic.
