When I saw the Tag Tuesday Challenge theme of butterflies this week I was amazed. The night before I’d just created a tag…a shape I rarely use…with a butterfly as the focal image. It was kismet.

Last month some of my visitors from the Dress-up Project thought the idea of recreating my flag twirler uniform was a good idea. Funny because it was just something I thought on a whim …not a really great plan in my head. So, I dug out the picture and gave it a whirl…or maybe that should be a twirl.
Most high school mascots are named for birds or tough, scary animals. Or maybe warriors.
Not us…
We were the Skippers. Yeah…I know…
Oh, watch out!! Here come those big, bad Skippers! It was a nautical thing that was much more relevant about 50 or so years prior. Although I’m sure it was chosen as an elitist thing. Bunch of snobs….but I digress.
Anyway…we had a sailor theme for our uniforms. I did manage the sailor collar but didn’t even attempt to make a sailor hat or the white gloves.
I’m pretty happy with the result.
What do you think compared to the real deal…?
Never mind the “woodsy-the-owl glasses”. Good grief…keep in mind it was the 80’s after all.

Homecoming 1988
Here’s my latest bit of miniature terrain for the boy. Obviously it’s a hill but this one is tall enough to block line of sight. Otherwise know as something to hide behind. :)
I think another building will be next.
As you know…I love being creative. But when it comes to scrap booking, I am a complete failure! I think I get way too uptight when I think about preserving those memories. I’m determined to put this scrapbook together in a timely manner and not get to stressed out about each page and each photo and each piece of paper I choose. It doesn’t have to be perfect…
Maybe once I get this one done, I will start the kids baby books! AGH! I know…bad mommy. I’ll get them done before they have their own kids, I promise.
We’ve gotten tons of small yellow tomatoes. Also some Big Boy’s and the heirloom striped variety I traded with my friend for in the spring. We’ve also harvested a few green onions as well as some green bell and jalapeno peppers.
This is today’s sampling….
I’m pretty sure the striped variety are Tigerella tomatoes aka: “Mr. Stripey” from what I’ve seen online.
Anyone want to confirm that for me?
As if I couldn’t get any more random… This weekend I started making terrain for miniatures.
My son recently got very interested in a miniature wargame called Warhammer 40k but the cost of said game can drive a person into the poorhouse. After talking with the hobby store owner about terrain and looking at some books I decided that I could make some hills and ruins out of stuff we already had around.
The hill was my first piece. It’s made from foam sheathing. I carved it into hill like shapes then glued them together. Sand was used in place of the expensive texture paint that was recommended. Then came the paints to make it more “real”. Little bits of moss as bushes helped with the allusion.
The other piece is a ruined building….at least one corner of a building.
I had a lot of fun with this one. I used molding paste to give the heavy cardboard some stone-like texture then used some paint techniques to give it definition. Again, little bits of moss as bushes helped with the realism.
Bet you never even knew I was gone! Ah, the magic of scheduled posting.
We just got back from Wisconsin Dells! It was a blast! We stayed at a resort that had 5 water parks. Of course the one we loved most was a long walk but hey…wears the kids out!!
We did the typical Dells things that you just have to do at least once if you visit…
We rode the Army Duck Boats, toured the Tommy Bartlett Exploratory, walked the tourist trap downtown area, had our picture taken at the dam and played in the water until we were very prune-like.
We also did some goofy things like stopping to take a picture of the kids in front of most any statue we could find.
It was a wonderful vacation…without having to board an airplane. :) Jamaica, I’m sure would have been better but we can’t drive there.
