I was inspired to create this journal page while reminiscing about our trip west last summer. So many beautiful sites. So many memories made.
The page started out quite simply.
I used Tim Holtz tissue to reinforce the spine of my Ivanhoe journal. I knew I wanted the focal point to span across the two page spread. I added lots of texture to begin with since I thought I was going to be using a lot of spray inks again. I went in another direction and used watercolor color crayons instead.
While the watercolor was still wet I sprinkled some baking soda in various places. It gave some nice subtle texture as it puled the color into the soda.
I also added lots of texture with the different choices in papers. From the vintage souvenir photo to textured card stock…
I layered tags, photo off-cuts, scrapbook paper, book page and stickers with wild abandon.
In the end I had a journal page that echoed my thoughts of our trip.

I love the composition here, and the color shading. Fond memories :)
This is a wonderful page for what must be wonderful memories. It’s been such an unusual summer in so many ways this year, travel is a big one. I miss going some place. I’m glad you shared this page with us at Art Journal Journey. It’s perfect for Alison’s challenge. Thanks-

So a beautiful page, I love how you came up with it creatively !!!
Have a happy day!
Greetings Elke
A lovely journal page, well double spread, in my favourite cool colours. I have never heard about baking soda but I will definitely try it out some time soon, I usually use salt for things like that. Always good to learn something new.
I love the way you have added other papers to give texture to the whole spread. Great work.
hugs, Neet xx
I hope I’m not too late for you to see this comment. I’m trying to play catch up.
I LOVE the texture you created. It’s been a LONG time since I used that technique, although I’ve only used it with acrylic paint and not water soluble crayons. This is a genuinely beautiful entry, Halle, and it’s filled with beautiful memories, too. Thanks for sharing it with us using Alison’s theme at Art Journal Journey.
Beautiful journal pages Halle. Thank you for linking to AJJ.
Sorry I am late calling in.
