I really enjoyed putting this page together mostly from scraps. I chose the main image first from this ephemera book I ordered on Amazon over a year ago. Then I went about pulling out pieces from my scraps that spoke to me.

The pink scrap wasn’t long enough but I decided to use it anyway and embrace the imperfection of it. The overall page still measures 7×10. I used layers of organza ribbon, lace harvested from a shirt and a bit of curtain scrap to help with the illusion of a full length page.

I used a bulb pin to attach a pretty vintage button for even more texture and a bit of bling.

I added a ticket cut from scrapbook paper along with a couple other random scraps to my design as well as the postage cancelation sticker. With that I felt I was done and stamped the date. As I was setting up to photograph the page for the blog, I decided it needed a bit more. I found a Tim Holtz butterfly that made me happy. I seem to be all about the butterflies lately.

This may be my last page for “I’ve got a notion”. Time will tell.

Today’s page for “I’ve got a notion” over at Art Journal Journey (which I happen to be hosting this month) is a departure from what I’ve have done so far.  All my previous pages have been loose leaf style and have went into my planner journal. I decided to go back to my roots with art journaling. This book is nearly filled to the brim with journal pages. It kind of got lost in the shuffle and I forgot it even existed…until now.

I once again used sewing pattern paper in the background. It always provides good texture as a backdrop. I did some simple layering of scraps to form mini collage areas ripe for text.

I also used some flowers I stamped on book page and fussy cut. The words came from a Tim Holtz sticker book, but what really cracks me up and I only noticed when writing this post…there is a spelling error. The i is missing from possibilities. Makes me feel a bit better about my own typos and grammatical errors that inadvertently get published.

This is definitely not my favorite page of the bunch. But I’m ok with that. It’s about the process sometimes. Muddling through. Practicing. Honing your skill.

Won’t you join me for I’ve got a notion .

This page started for me with the “atomic” paper and a handful pf photos from a local antique store. This little boy, Tony, looked to be up to some mischief.

Evidently it was Saturday morning cartoon time and someone forgot to turn it on.

I put together some found text to tell a little story after finding a couple other papers that seemed to fit that mid-century vibe.

With this piece I changed size but not format. It’s still a loose leaf page but instead of 7×10 inches, it measures 6×8. I had a few random 6×8 pieces of scrapbook paper in my stash. Likely from a garage sale. I was drawn to the teal color as well as the bright green leafy strip which was originally at the top of the page.  However it had a hole punched in the center.

I decided I need some layers to take care of that problem. I have a box of Project Life cards in my stash that are very neutral. The card had a blank space that perfectly fit the green strip. I zigzag stitched the strip across the entire page.

Then I began playing with other elements to complete my collage while covering the hole in the green strip. I found the perfect ruffle in my stash of ruffles. I like to mass make them with fabric strips I have laying around. They definitely come in handy.

Bird image is from a Tim Holtz ephemera pack and was the right size for the tag I picked out. The clock and wish label were cut from a magazine ages ago and hoarded away until now. I have a cigar box of images and fussy cuts that I’ve amassed over time. Again making it easy when I’m looking for just the right something to add to a page. The little yellow flower is an iron-on, I believe. It was a great topper for the tag and covered the hole in the tag as well.

I’m very pleased with this page and it will make a great addition to my planner journal.

The very first elements of this page were definitely not heading me in the direction of my “I’ve got a notion” theme. I was just playing and seeing where my creativity would take me.

The substrate is a yellow piece of copy paper I had used to protect my mat while painting and stamping. I added gelatos to deepen the color and give a more cohesive color scheme. The landscape image came next. It was salvaged from a calendar. It felt very “frontier” to me. I then added the western union scrapbook paper. Definitely heading to old west.

Then the dress form cutout literally fell into my lap from a package. It was meant to be. I had another page for my theme.

The ruler and spool label helped round out the thought for me.

I’m quite happy with the way it turned out…especially since I wasn’t planning on this page to begin with.

For the second piece in my “I’ve got a notion” series, I went with a vintage feel using elements from the sewing room.

The background is the instruction page from a pattern set. The vintage paper has such a lovely color.

I used a label rubber stamp around a spool image from a dictionary to add a notion.  I like to use this technique to harvest images from old book pages.

The printed papers are my own digital creations. I haven’t played much with that technique lately. I did take a USB thumb drive to Kinkos and have a few pages laser printed a couple years ago just to see how they’d turn out. The rose paper is one of those.

I added the lace down the side because who doesn’t love roses and lace. Once again butterflies are appearing in my art.

I hope you’ll join in with me for “I’ve got a notion” over at Art Journal Journey sometime this month.

Welcome everyone! I’m thrilled to be hosting this month over at Art Journal Journey!

“I’ve got a notion”

I chose a very tongue-in-cheek theme that has a wide variety of ways to fulfill the challenge.

This piece uses a number of sewing themed items as well as machine stitching.

Don’t let the word “notion” trip you up. It’s really more sewing themed with a puny title. I love a good pun!

I added a little pocket to hold a tag with a quote that resonated with me.

I’m looking forward to seeing how others interpret my theme of “I’ve got a notion”.

Head on over to Art Journal Journey and join the fun!
