I found this simply wonderful book at a rummage sale last Fall. It had a tattered and faded dust jacket hiding the purple goodness underneath.IMG_0119I wish the color showed a little more true in the photo. You’ll just have to believe me on the luscious color.IMG_0118

I purchased this book since it had a sewn binding which makes for a much more stable book when altered.

Before I begin, I really want to make a decision about journal vs altered book. This could make a really fun medical theme book. Perhaps a little gruesome. Not sure. I need to think this through a little more.

I discovered that using cardboard chunks as pages in my new journal has opened up a freedom in creativity that I hadn’t realized I was stifling.

I think perhaps it is due to the fact that if I totally stink it  or wreck the page in some way…I can easily be trashed without ripping out pages. IMG_0113

Take this page for example.  Is it my best most fantastic work? Nope. but I worked in a very intuitive way. Just letting it flow onto the page. Whatever struck my mood at the time. Refreshing my mind. IMG_0115

Brrr…it’s a chilly one here in MN!T Tuesday new journal edition

Good thing I have a big mug of tea!T Tuesday new journal edition

Since I recently finished a journal I decided it was time to start a loose leaf journal. This is something I’ve wanted to do for some time but it always got put on the back burner.T Tuesday new journal edition

I bought this small 3 -ring binder at Target from the clearance rack sometime last year. I loved the orange and polka dots.

I had added some old tip-ins…extras from long ago swaps. And there it sat…unloved…unused…until yesterday.T Tuesday new journal edition

I grabbed a chunk of cereal box and created the first page of my polka dot journal.T Tuesday new journal edition

I just love the words of wisdom from Yogi tea!

I’m off to run errands in the cold. I’ll be bringing a big travel mug of tea to help keep me warm. When I return I’ll be visiting the T stands for Tuesday blogs hosted by Elizabeth.

What are you doing today?

Is that just a Minnesota thing?  I’d have to assume the H E double hockey sticks part of it anyway.  But it IS cold today. So cold, they closed school.  I haven’t been out of the house since Saturday when I stocked up at the grocery store.

I’ve been crafting, cleaning and reading.

I completed the last pages in my journal which happened to be the last page of the book and the first.art journal

I didn’t plan it that way…it just happened.  All that’s left is to remove the library plastic and alter the covers.

I’m also working on completing my 2014 art calendar project. Here’s a little sneak peek.

And I couldn’t leave you today without showing my reinbeers

a gift of reinbeersI made them for my neighbor whose b-day happens to be New Year’s Eve.  This is a crummy photo but I snapped it quick before we left. He told me they were too cute to drink.

I’m linking up once again with Elizabeth for T stands for Tuesday.

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. We did and everyone stayed healthy…hooray! I was worried with all the influenza and viruses around leading up to the holiday break. 20141229_7383

I feel like I’m finally back in a creative place mentally so it was so cool that this was the tag on my Yogi tea bag today. “A relaxed mind is a creative mind.”

I find that I’m drawn to my art zone…now if I could get myself to organize it, I’d be set!

I’m continuing to plug away at the last few pages in my journal.20141229_7381

Playing with texture and bold color on these pages.

These pages had a more subdued feel…pastel like. Makes me think of Easter.

The words hadn’t dried completely before I closed the book. Make a  joyful noise!!! got smudged.  Darn pigment ink.

Well, we’ve got a birthday to celebrate today… Mini-me turns 12!! She’s getting so grown up! She is having a friend sleepover so I’m sure there will be a couple tired girls tomorrow…yikes.

What are you doing today??

It has been a while since I’ve worked in my art journals. I was worried that my muse may have disappeared….but I found her. 20141221_7356

I once again grabbed some scraps from around me to create this page. Some suede from a coat I cut up to make a book and some RenFest bags, tea stained lace curtain scrap20141221_7358 and some book page flowers I was experimenting with the other day.20141221_7357

I’m nearly done with this journal as well. I think maybe I can squeeze 3 perhaps 4 more pages out of it. I already have my next journal picked out….and an idea for another. I love the freedom art journaling affords. No theme. No boundaries. Just a place to express and experiment.

Another day of playing…well, not the whole day…not even close.

Today I worked my white journal. It’s getting pretty full. I’m definitely going to need to remove some more pages.

I’m continuing my love affair with pattern envelopes. The old images are simply wonderful.

I’ve also been going crazy with the washi tape. I finally got out my new dispenser…purchased last year about this time and hidden for Christmas…then forgotten. Nice. I got mine at Costco for WAY less $$ than Amazon has it listed.

I kept with the sewing theme and used a bit of a very old measuring tape as an accent. The sunburst was an unused piece from a graduation card that has been floating around on my desk for quite some time. Never throw anything away! No, don’t listen to me…things need to be tossed otherwise you’ll end up getting a dumpster or two next time you move.

I also broke out the dimensional paint for some texture and bling. I had it out for J to decorate a mask for school. They are reenacting the masquerade ball from Romeo and Juliet in his English class.
