While the kids were gone at a birthday party today, I got busy making a cover for my ABC 7th Anniversary book.
One little issue…I miscalculated when I was going to punch the cover with my Bind-it-all.
UGH!
But look…amazing what sins a little lace will cover right!?!?
I’m still having a hard time getting back in the groove of making art on a regular basis. I want to but then I sit down to do it and nothing comes. I decided I needed to do something different. Something experimental. So I grabbed a book and started slapping down some paint. I added what ever felt right at the moment. I didn’t even wait for the paint to completely dry. I just made art for the sake of doing it, not for what my end result might be. It was very free and very fun. I’m positive I didn’t spend more than 10 minutes on each one.
I don’t know if I’ll go back and add actual journal entries in these pages or if they are done but who cares right!?!
I’ve been struggling with allergies this week. Haven’t gotten much on my “to-do” list accomplished.
I did sit down and create this yet untitled bird page.
I also started a couple other pieces. Not sure where the others will lead.
Wanting to play a bit, I pulled out an old project so I’d have a direction.
I don’t know why I’m having such a hard time completing this book. I’m thinking maybe it’s the book itself. I didn’t choose wisely with this one. It’s too stiff and unforgiving. I fear that I’m going to break the binding if I bend it too far…which is a very likely scenario. My friend Elizabeth has a great tutorial for picking the right book to alter. Too bad I didn’t read this BEFORE starting the book.
I needed to warm myself up so I created this Spring inspired altered book page.
Now doesn’t that make you feel a little warmer already…
The doily was snagged from a free box at a garage sale. I used my favorite UHU twist & glue on all the fabric pieces. I sprinkled some fine glitter over the page to cover any spots that the glue seeped through. Made it look like a meant to do that. Maybe I should have just kept quiet and you’d just go along thinking how brilliant I am. Just kidding!!
I think I’ve been shut in too long. Cabin fever is setting in. Symptoms may include: laughing at yourself, by yourself and imagining everyone else thinks you are hysterically funny too.
This entire book used scraps of book pages glued to the board book in a random fashion. I then use paint, stamps, markers, correction fluid and colored pencils to create my backgrounds.
This is a Kelly Rae Roberts technique that I have absolutely fallen in love with.
Before becoming a member of the UHU design team, I used to think gel medium was the only glue that I could use for this technique. After getting my sample glues, I discovered that the UHU twist & glue works perfectly! No more messed up brushes or the oh so wonderful…walked away and left the top off the jar of gel medium. I was famous for that one. Did I mention I’m easily distracted…?
I tried something a little different with the spine. I sewed 2 scraps of fabric together using decorative stitches on my machine. I put a couple of large eyelets near the top so I could attach some fun fibers and charms. I used the UHU twist & glue to attach the fabric spine to the front and back covers.
I love how it turned out!
