20131222_3847 20131222_3848I’ve been having trouble feeling the love for my door journal. I think it has to do with the binding…specifically the tightness of it.  A few of the pages don’t turn very well…in fact, I may remove them.

While returning some library books last week, I spotted this one on the free shelf.  It’s a nice system…they have a little cash box there for a goodwill donation. You can even place books you want to be rid of there. The money goes back into the library system.  I hope when the new library opens they continue that shelf.  But I digress.

I picked this book since it is quite a bit bigger than my current art journal book as you can see. The spine is very flexible and I believe it will stand up well to oodles of paint.

I like to leave the plastic covers on these books until I’m done. It just protects them a little better. Then I’ll do something with the covers. So many options including covering with fabric, paint or papers. We’ll see what strikes me when we get there.

I decided to go a different route with our family Christmas cards this year. We’ve sent out a photo, letter or photo copied scrapbook page for countless years now.  My reasons for changing the tradition for this year are multifaceted. I have to tell you that my family was shocked!!Christmas cards

I’m sending out handmade cards this year. And a lot fewer of them. We’ll see how it goes. I may regret that decision but I already have my plan for next year. :)

These are just a few of the designs I came up with yesterday. Luckily I have a stash of cards I’ve made throughout the last couple of months.

scatter joy

There was a break in the sewing and knitting….

So I uncovered my worktable to make some art.

I had no idea what I wanted to do so I just “did”.

I don’t love every part of this page but that is okay.

I do love that I made art of the sake it art…not for sale or gift…just because it needed to be made.

the wallI can’t begin to tell you how annoyed I have been with myself for the past week or so. I misplaced my kira-kira journal.  Since I haven’t started a new one yet after finishing my cursed journal, it was my only journal space.  Yesterday, I stumbled upon it. I sat down with no idea in mind… just started with blue hues.

A week or so ago I picked up a bunch of rubber stamps at Goodwill…one of them was a brick pattern. I stamped the bricks all over the page for texture. Then I was feeling I needed to use pink. As soon as I spritzed the pink along the top to make it run, I thought of Pink Floyd: The Wall.  There was no need to go any further. I just needed to write the words.

dream bigI’ve reached the end of my cursed journal.   This is on the very end of the book.

I realized that I used this same sentiment earlier in the journal but it seems to be one that comes to mind a lot for me.

We must dream big or we will never reach for something just beyond our fingertips.

cursed journalI think I’m going to leave the outside covers of the book as is at least for now.  They are a nice shade of teal with a geometric pattern that is pleasing to the eye.

I always love the edges of an altered book or journal. All thick and wonky from paint and glue.

After the hard start for this journal…making me feel as if it was cursed. Seriously…the first few pages of this book are awful. Luckily I skipped around so they are interspersed with pleasing pages.

It’s been a whirlwind of activity around here since last week. I think the last time I’ve had two hours to rest during the day was when I was in the salon, last T Tuesday, getting my hair done.

I’ve been sewing like crazy. On both fabric…

And paper.

Of course, some painting as well.

painted series

In fact I have some spray painted goodies in the garage right now. Hopefully I’ll get everything done for Saturday. I have so many ideas now at the last minute for my craft sale. That’s the way it always works with me. I come down to the wire and my mind starts racing with new items to add to my table.

In addition to my “crafty crap”, as Mr. G so affectionately refers to it,  I have these this on my list.

  • a chapter to read for my bookclub tomorrow.
  • finish A Wrinkle in Time for Big J’s “partners in reading” project….yes, I get homework too.
  • mow the lawn…bagging it since there are so many leaves.

As well as the regular Tuesday stuff…knitting group, pesky household chores and  visiting T Stands for Tuesday blogs.

What are you doing today?

I absolutely love kraft paper but don’t use it very often.

Today I made my kraft series of cards.

Well…I’m not sure you can call them a series but every card had kraft paper as the base.

Truth be told…it’s a grocery bag.

I had forgotten to bring my reusable bags to the store this week, so I had an abundance of paper bags.

I found a pretty way to recycle them.

Or maybe that would be upcycling.

I did a lot of sewing on my card bases this time. Much in part to my sewing machine nagging me to use her…well, more like screaming at me… wondering why it’s sitting out if it’s not being used.

After adhering the sewn base to the folded card stock, I go on to add additional embellishment.

Sometimes a sentiment.

Sometimes random bits that speak to me.

Collage cards are my favorite to make if you hadn’t noticed.

Making 25 of the same thing is so hard and mind numbing for me. Partially because that involves measuring and partially because I’d need to purchase enough material to make 25 identical cards.  That takes forethought, pre-planning and again, that pesky measuring business.

I like to mix things up. That’s why I own Fiestaware! I never set a table with all the same color at a place setting. The salad dish may not match the plate on my table. Quirky, I know.

Quirky maybe a way to describe my card making process. Or perhaps some would say, random.

Either way…making cards one at a time is the way I prefer.
