There is a new theme over at Art Journal Journey…Back to School. Well that certainly is a timely theme since mine have been back for a week now. On typical years the kids don’t go back until after Labor Day but ours went back early to make up for the week they’ll have off at the end of September.
Of course school as we knew it is gone. No black boards…they have been replaced by first white boards then smart boards.
And remember these…you’d look up the book you wanted in a card catalog then check it out by writing your name on the library card which would be stamped with the due date. That system has been dead a very long time. Bar codes and scanners with emails to remind you of due dates is the way of today.
This page is a tribute to school the way we knew it.
Love the way you have documented the changes in your journal spread, and thanks a lot for joining us again at AJJ. Hugs, Valerie
A fantastic journal page, loved your images and the pocket for the card. I think I prefer the old blackboards, to the modern white ones.

i totally agree that blackboards (and green boards) are gone, as is the card catalog. But your wonderful reminiscence brought it all back in a big way. What a great first entry this month, Halle.
What a fun traditional back to school page. I love these images. Makes me want to be a kid again-especially if I knew I had a week off at the end of month. Is this a usual thing? Hugs-Erika
A fun and beautiful BACK TO SCHOOL spread Halle!
Lovely done!
So glad you shared it with Art Journal Joureny!
Happy new week!

I still have blackboards in my classroom! and one whiteboard. No smartboard :)We do scan books out in our library — but I have saved many cards and pockets :) A bit of a hoarder….
I like your back-to-school-page very much! I also know the blackboard and the library card as well.
Lovely pages! The torn edges of the background are a fab idea, love it! All the different elements you have chosen give it such a homely and welcoming feel! I’d be happy to join you at this school and I don’t mind blackboard, white board or a smartboard as long as the lesson on the latter was still interactive and not “death by powerpoint” :-). Wishing you a great weekend! J :-)
