When I think of summer, I think of road trips. I grew up traveling across country with my parents. Sometimes we made it all the way to the coast. Sometimes to Canada. And other times just to the neighboring state…but we always drove.
I have so many memories of back roads such as this. Dad never cared for taking the interstate freeway system. He wanted to see the small communities, the heartbeat of America. Times were definitely different in those days.
I used soft pastel colors to reflect the innocence of the time…at least through a child’s eyes. I’m sure my parents wouldn’t agree but compared to life now…it was definitely innocent.
I wish I were travelling down that road right now…

Halle I love this page and story that goes with it. I am a big road trip fan. There is nothing better than driving to see the country, and your page certainly catches that spirit of summer. Thanks so much for joining in my challenge. Hugs-Erika
A lovely post to read and the journal page you created of a road trip looks fantastic, a trip to see the countryside on a hot day is something to remember. Thank you for linking to Erika’s theme at Art Journal Journey.

I so enjoyed and got into the mood whilst reading your post. How lovely it must have been to travel those back roads and your father was so right to choose that way to go on holiday rather than the fast roads that everyone seems to favour these days. I would never have thought, as you did, of using those lovely pastel colours, shows how much thought you have put into the work on this page. Lovely and so enjoyable.
Hugs, Neet xx
Lovely page and lovely muse, Halle.
Our family vacations were road trips too. But my dad wanted to go places fast and he stayed on the interstates. We kids all wanted to see what was on those back roads. Hugs, Eileen
