T Tuesday: Duluth edition

Last week I mentioned that Mini-me and I had traveled to Duluth immediately after her return from Costa Rica. She was participating in the state archery tournament.

We drove up on Friday and went straight to J’s apartment since he goes to college in same city. We took him shopping and to eat before leaving him back home and heading to our hotel. It’s a new hotel in the same harbor area of the historic town of Duluth, MN.

This was a view out our hotel room window. According to the in-room brochure, the silos were used for powdered cement storage. They kept them when developing the site for historic value.

Mini-me and I enjoyed some lovely appetizers as a late night meal as we enjoyed the view.

After our meal we ran back up to the room and grabbed a coat before venturing out for a walk since we were on the south side of the lift bridge…a view we hadn’t ever had the opportunity to enjoy.

Little did we know that they had a nightly bonfire with free s’mores!

The next morning we set off for the tournament. Mini-me’s coach gave her a nickname that has absolutely nothing to do with her actual name but has stuck…at least with her archery folk.

I decided that she should really have it on her bow case. I used my silhouette to create a vinyl sticker with her new namesake. Her coach laughed so dang hard…totally worth it!!

Yesterday I actually got creative….I made about a dozen cards.

After going through a bunch of my craft stuff and bringing it to my neighbor to share I was inspired by my conversation with her to make more cards. She has and a group to locals have “adopted” many deployed troops for years. Writing letters, sending supplies, gifts and treats. One thing she said they always want is cards to send home. Sending cards and letters home helps pass the time. And really…who doesn’t love a good old piece of snail mail from a real person!!

I decided right then and there to set some time aside to make some cards. It’s beneficial for me AND them. I get to stretch my creative muscles which evidently are going unused too often and they get a few cards to mail home.

This week is really up in the air for us…Today is was nearly 70°F and Weds-Fri we could get anywhere from 6-24 inches of snow. Crazy!!! This winter just won’t quit.

What are you doing today?

I don’t get the Louise, but I like the sticker you created. It’s fabulous, and I’m glad you got to see J and spend time with him in Duluth.

That’s a fantastic hotel you stayed at. And a bonfire and s’mores, too. Sort of like happy hour for the young at heart.

Now I’m hungry after seeing those appetizers. Gosh they look appealing. Thanks for sharing your beer and food with us for T this Tuesday.

I think that’s a wonderful project. I used to send postcards to service men and women, but they’ve stopped that program here, so I don’t anymore. Your friends are doing something much more worthy, though. Good for you and that group, dear Halle.

Looks like a great place to visit- the food looks really good and I love the view of the bridge and city lights. I didn’t know there still were archery competitions around:) Nice set of cards and for a good cause too. We have had lovely weather and though it will get a bit cooler I don’t mind so long as there is NO more snow in our forecast. Happy T day!

Sounds like a great trip. I used to work for a cement company though the silos at our plant were not made of cement. I often wondered why they didn’t just put the office next to the silo instead of on top. I hope you don’t get any more snow because it may come East and I don’t want any more snow. Clever sticker you made for your daughter. Hope she did well at the tournament. Awesome crop of cards you made, too. Enjoy your day!

Great photos of the area. I’m glad you and Mini-me got to spend some time together there. Wonderful assortment of artwork. And I thought the water looked a little cold, and then you ended with your snow forecast. Ugh. Happy T-Day!

That sounds like a great trip you had. The view of the lit-up bridge (and the fire pit) is spectacular. I wasn’t so keen on the old silos though. I think they are a bit of an eye-sore to be honest. Perhaps they could paint them or get some urban artists in to do something.
I’m impressed with your cards. They look really good. Then I read about sending them to the deployed for them to send home. That is such a perfect idea. No wonder you are inspired!
I don’t understand why mini-me should be called Louise when that is not her name, but hey, it doesn’t matter. Your machine did cut it beautifully (with an arrow as well).
    Hugs,
    Happy T-Day,
    Lisca
