This year for Christmas we changed things up a bit. In the past several years we’ve had a Christmas brunch and it worked out very well since the kiddos weren’t too great at waiting to open presents. In those days I think they would have preferred everyone spend the night and get up at 6am. Since they are older now, we decided moving back to a more traditional time for our family was best. That meant we’d need a dessert.
I decided to make a rum cake. I’d made this one before and it was so yummy. The recipe comes from a cookbook called Booze Cakes that I checked out from the library. The first time I made it I used a standard bundt pan in the classic bundt shape. This time I decided to get a little adventurous and use my fancy bundt pan since it looks a bit like Christmas trees.
As it was baking, I was realizing that the tree pan was smaller than the classic pan…I kept watching it in fear that it would run over as it baked. I was lucky…
Look how beautifully it came out of the pan! I took a lot of time preparing the pan in hopes that it would work. So cute!
Remember I mentioned this was from a cookbook called Booze Cakes…yeah…that bottle was full when I started and I wasn’t sampling. I don’t even like rum in drinks…but I sure do in cake!!!
Just before serving I dusted the entire cake with powdered sugar giving it the appearance of snow. I totally forgot to snap a photo though. You’ll just have to take my word for it. It was yummy and boozy.
The kids head back to school after winter break so I’ll be all by myself for a change…well I’ll still have Marvin to keep me company.
What are you doing today?
Don’t ya just love when a cake turns out just fine from a Bundt pan? That cake sounds so yummy. I make a baba rhum for my Mom once a year as that is her very favorite French dessert. Marvin looks quite content. Happy New Year and happy T day too!
Oh how awesome. Many years ago. I purchased a huge jar (maybe 5 gallon) of rum balls, so I I now I would like this. The instructions were to invert the balls once every week, which I did religiously until I ate all the balls. So, I can take your word for it that it was good. BTW, I’m not a rum drinker, either, but I sure did like those rum balls.
Thanks for sharing this really unique and outside-the-box post with us for T this week.
Wow, your cake looks gorgeous that fancy bundt pan worked really well to give it a special Chritmassy feel :-). I bet it tasted delicious too – yum! Wishing you a Happy T Day! J :-)
That is a gorgeous bundt pan Halle. I’ve never had a rum cake or rum balls but I bet its good. And I’m jealous, its back to school tomorrow for me too. I’ll miss my days home from the kids for sure. Hugs-Erika
Marvin cracks me up!

happy t-day and a wonderful 2017!!
The cake does for sure look delicious, the cake pan looks great as well and no extra decoration needed with the lovely trees around the sides.
Happy T day

Wow! That cake is beautiful! I bet you were a bit nervous turning it out, but it came out perfect. Do you butter the inside and sprinkle with flour? It takes ages to grease every nook can cranny. It look delicious! Well done!
Yes, I recognize that bottle. I have one in my cupboard. I love spiced rum. We can only get it around Christmas, so when I saw it in the supermarket a few weeks ago, I bought it. I sometimes drink it as a hot toddy on winter nights or medicinal when I have a cold (warmed up in the microwave).
Happy New Year and happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
Very impressive cake. What a fancy pan you have to make it in too. Very much in the Holiday mood.
The rum cake baked in fancy bundt pan came out beautifully. You must have been delighted. I hope everyone was duly impressed ;-)
Me too – I don’t care for rum in drinks but it sure adds a nice flavor to baked sweets!
Happy T Day, Halle!
Jinx my cat has had his breakfast and schmoozed some milk from Hubby and he is off hunting a sun puddle which i fear he may not find today as we have some cloudy cold weather moving in … I have a THING for bundt cake pans.. and i LOVE yours! Have a happy happy T day Halle! Hugs! deb
Your rum cakes looks gorgeous. Bet it tasted as good as it looked, too. And doesn’t Marvin look comfy. Enjoy your day!
My son has fancy bundt tin too – I don’t think he has ever made a booze cake (at least not for me)! I love how relaxed Marvin looks – he clearly doesn’t need booze! Happy T day Chrisx
oh my goodness, your cake looks marvelous! you did an excellent job getting the cake out of the pan…I’m sure I would have broken at least a corner of the lovely design…my son brought fruitcake over Christmas and i do believe it had quite a bit of rum in it! sooo yummy! Happy T Day, and Happy New Year!
