Nothing like waiting to the last minute or the final hour to work on the Art Journal Journey theme for this month… TIME

Art Journal Journey

Honestly I wasn’t working directly towards the theme but after placing the focal image down the idea that she was in a hurry came to mind. Then it was just a point of find the right words to fit her look.

I find it ironic that the happens to be an ermine on the page….part of the weasel family…often associated with being sneaky. Fun how things work out sometimes.

Several weeks ago I mentioned an upcoming article but wasn’t at liberty to discuss until now…

It’s here! My complementary copy of the Summer 2015 edition of Sew Somerset.

Last September I was approached by an editor of Sew Somerset about my fabric collage cards I had listed on etsy. She asked if I’d send some to her for possible publication. You betcha! (sorry my Minnesota is showing) So I sent off a dozen cards and didn’t hear anything more until February when I get an email requesting that I write an article to go along with the cards they planned on publishing. YES!!

I am in absolute awe of how lovely they made the layout.

The closeups and color combinations…wow! And that is why those people are pros!!

All in all I have 5 pages! Amazing….I’m thrilled! Seriously thrilled!!

I want to thank Sew Somerset for publishing my words and art. It’s very uplifting to have asked to be a part of this wonderful publication.

Hazzah! I finally completed this page. You can’t even imagine how many layers and colors are under this background or how many times I have walked away from this page in disgust. Believe it or not this page started out all cool pastels. I just couldn’t get myself to like it.  Yellow isn’t my usual color either but it just felt right. Now I have to say that I love this page.

Happy Mother’s Day!!

I’m trying my hand at Journal 52 this week since I was using magazine images in my coffee theme book. coffee collage crazy

I pulled out elements that fit my theme then went for some scrapbook paper for the background. Not my usual way of starting out but I’ve got to use up some of that paper!!

The paper I used is actually for a little boy page. The upper left of the 12×12 piece said Catch me…  Since I already had the word coffee… cut out it seemed to fit perfectly.

Across the top I layered on a coffee bean image from an ad and part of a bookmark. It still needed something so I sponged some gesso through a letter stencil. I then dipped my double circle tool, which happens to be from the center of a transparent tape roll, in gesso because who doesn’t love circles!

I used a Pitt pen to go around the coffee cup image for depth. I still felt it needed a bit more of the red so I grabbed some stickers from Starbucks (thanks Elizabeth) for the right touch of color. I  happened upon these play money coins and thought they’d be perfect final touch.

I totally missed T stands for Tuesday last week. T stands for Tuesday_200I can’t even remember what I was doing other than not being on my computer.

I do know what I was obsessively making on Thursday though…collage card

I turned on some music, grabbed my scraps and began piecing together collages. I think I was inspired to make more after writing an article about my process. I’ll give you more of a heads up on that when it’s about to be published. :) Honestly I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to say about it until it comes out so that’s all I’m saying for now.

I’m such a tease…I know.

Today we are expecting a snow storm but we haven’t seen a flake so far. If it’s as bad as they say, Little J’s concert may be postponed tonight. In the mean time I’ll be working around the house. Exciting, huh?!?

So…what are you doing today?

Was that a confusing title or what?!?  But it is accurate. Thanks to my friend Patty, I now have a quick and easy way to make a collage or mosaic of photos… The program is called pixlr and I just love it!card collage2 card collage1These are just few of the cards I’ve made as of late.  I’d been slacking a bit on my etsy store inventory but figured it was time to get back at it.

A very special young man in our life just graduated from high school. He is like my 3rd child…my unofficially adopted one. He surprised me with a cup of Caribou coffee one Mother’s Day morning.  So sweet.  He is friend to Big J…and an over-sized big brother to Little J.   grad cardThe boys have had a love for video games since the day they met. Nintendo was the platform of choice.  Now “my second son” is going off to college into a video game design  program in a few short months. I thought this card would make him smile.

Congrats T!
