Well boys and girls…not sure if we have any boys visiting but I’m all inclusive…it’s story time.

This week was eventful. We had more snow once again. This week we had a 2 hour early release on Thursday afternoon and a 2 hour late start on Friday morning. We never should have had school on Friday. The roads were glare ice. So slippery that I managed to spin out our Jeep across on coming traffic and end up with the back end in the ditch. Thankfully we didn’t hit another car and I was able to put the 4 wheel drive to good use by driving back out of the ditch. With frazzled nerves I continued on to drop the girls off at school and get myself to my school. UGH! So lucky. Could have been a much worse end to that story.

J also came home for the weekend to celebrate his birthday. We had cake…of course it might have been good if i’d remembered to take a before photo.

Whoa…not sure what happened with that image but I’m too far along and too tired to go fix it. One of my custom brushes must have gotten away from me. :)

I have been doing some work in Photoshop over this past week. I’ve been wanting to create some texture backgrounds. I hope to use them as overlays on photos, backgrounds, starting points for digi-art etc.

I even thought about making some printables with ephemera, photos or even vintage linens for texture.  Do you ever use printables in your art? If so, are they purchased or freebies? I see tons of digital downloads on etsy but I wonder if people actually buy them or use them.

What are you doing today?

Have a safe and happy Holiday!

Happy Independence Day

Just playing around in the digital word a bit.
Using some of my custom brushes along with filters and a kaleidoscope plugin I made this….

from this….

I can scarcely believe that I’ve written that many posts!
And even more shocking is the fact that you all are still here reading after all this time.
Especially considering that I’ve been in quite a dry spell lately.

With that said, I’d like to reward one of you for sticking with me by sending you one of my newly created scrap journals.

All you need to do is leave a comment on this post, making sure I have some way to contact you if you are the winner.
I’ll draw the winning name on November 27th.
The winner will have their choice  of cover designs.
Easy peasy, right!?!?

I’ve been working on loom knitting again. I have an order for 10 dishcloths and am expecting I’ll be getting a few more orders real soon. I decided to use some of my scraps of yarn to give some visual interest to these cloths.  Waste not, want not.

As long as I was thinking scrappy…

I put together the first in a series of journals. The cover is a print of one of my kaleidoscopes. I believe this one started as a rose.

I love the look of all the different papers. It’s up to the recipient to decide how to use them.

another big one!
Time certainly does speed up the more years that go by.
I haven’t had some weird mid-life crisis such as wanting to take up sky-diving or get a motorcycle.
No tattoos, although I did dye my hair pink for breast cancer awareness last October.
Later we are going to have
my favorite meal…
SUSHI !!

There seems to be a pattern with me lately…I can’t seem to get these done at the proper time.  At least Darcy is very kind about it and doesn’t rap us on the hand with a ruler or anything. :)
Week 16…otherwise known as last week…Thadeus sends a postcard from Romania.
The postcard is a photo I took then played around in Photoshop a bit to give it a vintage feel.

Thadeus writes:

Maggie-
Iceland was amazing. I can’t stop thinking of you even when I know that I should be actually reading the books and documents in  front of me. I have scarcely seen the outside of the library here in Romania. I think I have discovered the source of the shipment. Time will tell.
       Yours-Thadeus

The accompanying page is a little boring. I thought the paper is somewhat old wallpaper like…something one might see in an old library.
Week 17 Maggie writes to Thadeus from Norway.
She doesn’t mention why she is there. It seems Miss Maggie is somewhat a woman of leisure. Taking photos, painting etc.

 Maggie writes:

Thadeus-
I’m so excited that we, I mean, you are getting more answers. I feel as though I’m part of your journey as well now. I hope that doesn’t offend you since you are doing all the work.
When you visit next I’m going to make you some Norwegian specialties.
      Yours truly- Maggie

She certainly tends to stumble a bit when corresponding with Thadeus. Maggie seems quite impulsive…doesn’t think before she speaks…or writes.
The page includes the recipes written in Norwegian…sure hope she can translate them…and a pocket that showcases rosemaling.
Thanks for bearing with me and the extra long post.
Stop by Darcy’s blog to see some more Norway postcards this week.
