Week 2 of The Summer of Color hosted by Kristin of Twinkle, Twinkle has me loving the colors! I absolutely adore this color combo.

1 pink + 1 pink + 1 orange

I used a hot pink gelato through the middle of the gesso’d page…spritzed it with water and blended it with my fingers then tipped the book back and forth to make the color run.SOC5 week2I found a piece of scrapbook paper in the pastel pink shade and punched a variety of circles to place across the center. SOC5 week 2

I happened to have some fun orange mesh, washi tape and some brads all in the same shade of orange.

Since I have such a difficult time leaving a page without words, I decided that vellum would be a good choice to add the required word. I can’t explain it but for some reason words make me feel at peace with a page.SOC 5 week2Even after my word, I felt it still was lacking something….orange splatters fit the bill. I’m very happy with this page as simple as it is.

Thanks once again to Kristin for this fun summer challenge!!

I’m playing along with Art Journal Journey again. The theme is masculine/feminine.

I started this background for a different challenge then abandoned it as it wasn’t going the direction I had envisioned.  This gave me a great starting point to draw a face.

I’m certainly not great at faces but drawing with the eyes closed certainly helps.  The way I figure is if I keep trying they’ve got to improve over time!

I added some paper and fabric collage with some found text to balance out the pages.

I’ve been waiting all year, heck since last year, for this post.

The Summer of Color hosted by Kristin of Twinkle, Twinkle is here and I’m ready to share my page for the first weeks challenge.

1 blue + 1 blue + 1 green

I decided to use gelatos since I have a nice selection in coordinating colors.

SOC5 week 1

I scribbled the three colors straight on the book pages then spritzed with water. I blended with my fingers then closed the pages onto one another and quickly pulled them back apart. This gives a fun mix of the colors over top of each other in a very unique way.

My quote “The one who plants a garden plants happiness” guided me to stamp some flowers with faded denim distress ink across the bottom of the page.

I ripped bits of the baby wipe I used earlier to simulate clouds.

I stamped my quote on some dress pattern paper since I had it laying around. In hindsight I wish I’d taken the time to dig out some white tissue paper instead.

The words in text came last. I saw them in my bin of saved phrases right there on top and decided they were meant to be on the page as well.

Thanks to Kristin for once again hosting this great challenge.

T stands for Tuesday_200Welcome to another edition of T stands for Tuesday hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. It’s time to share a beverage and talk about what ever the heck is on your mind!water for tea tuesday

Holy cow!! We’ve definitely had a week to remember…or at minimum…an early morning to remember. We found out that our volunteer fire dept has a really good response at 6:20 in the morning. And we didn’t even have a fire…just needed EMT’s.  They just kept walking through my front door. I won’t go into the details but no transport was needed and all is fine now.

After commenting to friend about all the men in my livingroom that morning I saw this on Pinterest and it made me laugh!!

And back to normalcy. I created a cover page or perhaps it would be the title page for my latest journal. I decided to leave the name of the original owner of the book. It gives the book more history in my mind.

My seedlings are doing really well. I picked up an herb pot at Trader Joe’s and have placed it inside the protective plastic bin as well to keep it safe from you know who. Naughty Miss Gracie.

I also got the pink streak put in my hair again.  halfThe kids are on Spring Break this week. We are enjoying a mellow week at home. Little J and I saw Cinderella yesterday. It was pretty good. More sad than the animated version but not as dark as the original fairy tale.

I’m not sure what the rest of today has in store yet. That’s the beauty of vacation right?!?

What are you doing today?

More Gypsy journal play yesterday. I started with acrylic paints and ended with gelatos.

I used masking tape down the center of the pages to help protect from moisture bleeding through to the rest of the book. I ripped off way to long of piece so I ripped it up and stuck it randomly on the pages. I added the mesh tape as more texture before giving a light coat of gesso to the entire page.beyond the veil texture

I started with pinks and purples…then added the circles in yellow. After it was dry I went back and started layering on some blue hues. All of this with my fingers. I have so much more control with my fingers and the paint flows and melds so nicely together.beyond the veil

After drying again I decided it was too blue so I came back in with some gelatos to highlight some of the pink and purple peeking through the blue. I also enhanced the circles with a couple shades of yellow.

This journal has me writing and thinking deeply. Perhaps it’s a stage in my life…getting older…seeing my kids getting closer to leaving the house than the cradle.

Or perhaps it’s writing with a nib pen and ink that inspires me. My grandpa used to write his sermons with a nib pen. I have a couple pages of sermon notes in my treasures. My handwriting is very similar to his. Genetics are amazing!

I’m loving my new clutter free work zone. I’m working very hard at putting things back where they belong when I’m finished. I’ve also been purging some items that I will never in a millions years use. Mostly items that I’ve picked up at sales…when you get a whole box lot of things for one price. Sometimes you find real treasures but others…ick…awful cutesy scrapbook supplies from the really early days.

Another reason for me to keep things clutter free and organized is that I’ve gotten a few new supplies and they of course need a home. I’ll tell you more about those tomorrow…I know…such a tease.dream a little dream

I will show you the journal page from yesterday though. I used one of my new supplies on the background. Can you guess what it may have been?dream a little dream

I’m continuing to be drawn to my new Gypsy jounral. I’m going with the flow…letting it happen naturally. This is not a favorite page in it’s entirety but I am fond of parts of it.blossom jounral pageI feel as if I could have married the two pages better for a more unified look.

For some reason the flower makes me think of an artichoke…not a fully mature one but it has that shape in my mind. Or perhaps if an artichoke and a water lily had a love child…this would be the product.
