I worked on a new journal page yesterday in the cold basement. UGH! The furnace struggles to keep the lower levels warm in these constantly below zero temps. Here’s a current weather screen shot.

Today is actually warmer than it has been the past few.  It took a bit of devotion to creativity to ignore the chill and create.

devoted art journal page

The word popped out at me from a dictionary page in my stash. I’m using my word of the year every day!  I am renewing myself.

I did a bit of journaling on the page with a few words and phrases that will continue to inspire me on my quest for renewal.

This maybe be the very last entry in my polka dot journal…it will be adhered to the inside back cover. I’ll have to see if there is possible room for one more page after this one is placed.

Speaking of devotion and renewal…I am happy to say I’ve been not only sticking with the goals I’ve set for myself but am enjoying it. Having a positive attitude about it and making strides in the right direction.I’m keeping on task with the help of my little notebook and therefore accomplishing more.

As well as trying to make every day look like this one…

This was my best day so far of the year but we are only 5 full days in and I’ve lost 4 lbs! Super excited! Let’s keep this momentum going!! My next goal is to hit all “greens” on the goals two days in a week. I figure if I set small goals I’ll have a better chance at success therefore not setting myself up for failure as I have so many times in the past.

Have a great day!

I was inspired to create this page after the Holiday choir concert J took part in at his school. The holiday concert is always a highlight of the season but this one felt a little more special. The school went through a rough time just a couple days before and this beautiful concert was a first step in healing and moving forward…erasing the ugly and replacing it with good.music shines through

Yes I know some of my letters are wonky. I’m totally ok with that. It shows yet another way we can turn things around,

The image is cut from a Thomas Kinkade Christmas card…it just worked perfectly to reflect my theme.

I used my sewing machine to stitch it down.

Linking up with Art Journal Journey for the current theme of Light and Darkness.

Art Journal Journey

Some quiet reflection brought me to this page.

new happy ending

I used light cardboard for my substrate adding layers of paper and paint.

glass-look mason jar using punched plastic

Gelatos were used on this paper pieced mason jar. I punched a jar from a plastic sleeve and adhered over the butterfly giving the illusion of glass.

charcoal doodles with white pen journaling

Before punching holes in the page for my polka dot journal I did a bit of paint scrapping, doodling with charcoal pencil and personal thoughts in white pen.

nearly full polka dot journal

My polka dot journal is basically full. I may do two more pages that I can adhere to each of the inside covers before called this one complete. I originally thought I’d do something on the front cover as well but unless it’s non-dimensional…which has not been my MO lately….it’s likely better that I leave it just plain.

I hope you forgave me for being so insensitive…so long old friend.

I had to take a break from sewing to work on and an art journal page. I definitely have to have more than one project at a time. My attention span demands it. A short browse on my workspace was all that it took to get the ideas flowing.

I grabbed a piece of cardboard, scrapbook paper and distress paints to get started. The scrapbook paper had an off-road motorcycle theme…I liked the colors but not the theme. That’s where the paint comes in. Just covered up what I didn’t want. I always have a small bin of words and phrases close at hand so I picked out a few that seemed to speak to me while the paint dried.

memory course art journal page

The page from an old math book seemed very fitting. It made me think of all those formulas that are so important that you have to memorize. I still have a few of those banging around in my brain that surface when I need them. I’m always the first to point out to my kids when I’m actually using some of that knowledge from school that I swore “I’d never use again”. I certainly don’t use it every day but I do use it.

I had a very unexpected result when I was heating the embossing powder around the edges of my page. The old, dry math book page started to burn…not flames but turned brown and smelled like it was burning.  I’ve never had that happen. Now I’d like to try it on purpose. I think it could be a really cool effect for say an old letter or map. I need to do it next to the sink though, just in case. :)

Yes now that I look at my date stamp I realize that I read the 9 as a 6 when looking at it backward on the stamp. No, I did not make this page in the future and travel back to post it. If I had the ability to time travel I’d do something much more interesting than that!!!

I’m linking up today with Art Journal Journey with the Back to School theme.

Spending time out doors since the weather has finally started to cooperate is definitely inspiring me to create. Seems odd but there it is. Fresh air and sunshine can do a lot for ones perspective…especially after days of sticky, hot disgusting weather. The kind that has you wanting to take a shower…again…after walking out to the mailbox. Those days just make me crabby.

wonderful world

For this nature themed page I used cardboard from the end of a notepad as my substrate. I covered it with random book pages then used gelatos for the background. I was originally thinking I’d have a whole forest of trees with a small break of blue sky in the middle. Then I decided that just one large tree would be a better visual statement.

wonderful world

I once again was able to use some recently gifted collage fodder on this page. These daisies from Krisha were the perfect edition to the edge of the vellum word block. The wooden bird in the tree was another recent gift…this time from Patty. These two elements came together quite nicely to add the right finishing touches to the page.

After I punch the properly spaced holes, this page will end up in my polka dot journal.

I’m linking up with AJJ today to meet the current months theme of Nature’s Wonders.

As I’ve said many many times…I spend a lot of time on Pinterest. I’m often inspired by the images I see. I’m not one to completely copycat but tweak the design a little for my own use. Sometimes it’s color combos that make me run downstairs to create. Other times it’s the curve of a line, interesting texture or a simple splat of ink that has my mind whirling.

Before a stomach bug took me out of commission for a couple of days, I was inspired by this image and my new found interest obsession in weaving, to create this card.

woven text with heart

Actually I made a couple cards since I had strips cut.

The cards in turn inspired me to create this journal page.

The Yogi tea tag was a serendipitous find in my stash.

I discovered that using cardboard chunks as pages in my new journal has opened up a freedom in creativity that I hadn’t realized I was stifling.

I think perhaps it is due to the fact that if I totally stink it  or wreck the page in some way…I can easily be trashed without ripping out pages. IMG_0113

Take this page for example.  Is it my best most fantastic work? Nope. but I worked in a very intuitive way. Just letting it flow onto the page. Whatever struck my mood at the time. Refreshing my mind. IMG_0115
