I’m sad…it’s over…The Summer of Color hosted by Kristin of Twinkle, Twinkle is really done with this last set of colors.

SOC 5 week 6 orange+orange+blue

1 orange+ 1 orange + 1 blue

I know the Golden color says red oxide but it is totally orange.

Just look how dark orange it is!!

I decided on some very Dr. Suess like flowers in blue for this weeks journal page. I used a Prismacolor watercolor pencil to draw the basic shape then went in with a water brush to give them movement and dimension.

My found text came last…although once auditioning the text on the page I realized it really needed a bit of white splatters so the text wouldn’t be so stark.

Once again thank you to Kristen for her hard work and dedication to the yearly challenge!

What?!?!? How is it week 5 of The Summer of Color hosted by Kristin of Twinkle, Twinkle. Seriously…time goes by way too quickly!

This weeks colors are…

soc5 week5

1 green+ 1 green + 1 pink

I went very basic this week. I spread some thinned out light green along the bottom edge of the book then sprayed with water. I then tipped the book to get a good flow going in an upward motion to simulate foliage in the background.

I almost feel like I want to do another page in these colors…something abstract. But this was where my mind was at this morning as the rain poured down outside. Dreaming.

I was very slow to get a clue with these colors for this Week 4 of The Summer of Color hosted by Kristin of Twinkle, Twinkle. Between that and a busy holiday week I just didn’t get anything accomplished.

1 red+ 1 red + 1 metallic

SOC5week4

I decided at the last moment to throw in the black scribbles and splatters of India ink. They made the page feel a little more grounded.

Looking for to seeing what tomorrow holds for colors…

The colors for this Week 3 of The Summer of Color hosted by Kristin of Twinkle, Twinkle gave me some trouble. I wasn’t sure how I wanted to proceed so I didn’t until today.

1 purple + 1 purple + 1 yellow

I happened upon an image of a little girl all in yellow in a magazine ad. I figured she’d work perfect for the yellow portion. I used gel medium to adhere the magazine image to some printer paper so she’d have a little more stability as I cut around her.

For the background I once again decided to use gelatos…

SOC5 week3 2

So far they haven’t failed me. Although I was surprised at how pink the lavender gelato appeared on the page. I decided to just press on since the tube was clearly labeled lavender.

SOC5 week3 1

Instead of doing a straight up checker board I went with random rectangles. The blending gave a slightly dreamy quality in my eye.

SOC5 week3 3

I searched through my collection of phrase fragments until something came together.

These colors definitely had me stepping…or perhaps leaping outside my comfort zone. That’s what challenges are for, right?!?!

Week 2 of The Summer of Color hosted by Kristin of Twinkle, Twinkle has me loving the colors! I absolutely adore this color combo.

1 pink + 1 pink + 1 orange

I used a hot pink gelato through the middle of the gesso’d page…spritzed it with water and blended it with my fingers then tipped the book back and forth to make the color run.SOC5 week2I found a piece of scrapbook paper in the pastel pink shade and punched a variety of circles to place across the center. SOC5 week 2

I happened to have some fun orange mesh, washi tape and some brads all in the same shade of orange.

Since I have such a difficult time leaving a page without words, I decided that vellum would be a good choice to add the required word. I can’t explain it but for some reason words make me feel at peace with a page.SOC 5 week2Even after my word, I felt it still was lacking something….orange splatters fit the bill. I’m very happy with this page as simple as it is.

Thanks once again to Kristin for this fun summer challenge!!

I’ve been waiting all year, heck since last year, for this post.

The Summer of Color hosted by Kristin of Twinkle, Twinkle is here and I’m ready to share my page for the first weeks challenge.

1 blue + 1 blue + 1 green

I decided to use gelatos since I have a nice selection in coordinating colors.

SOC5 week 1

I scribbled the three colors straight on the book pages then spritzed with water. I blended with my fingers then closed the pages onto one another and quickly pulled them back apart. This gives a fun mix of the colors over top of each other in a very unique way.

My quote “The one who plants a garden plants happiness” guided me to stamp some flowers with faded denim distress ink across the bottom of the page.

I ripped bits of the baby wipe I used earlier to simulate clouds.

I stamped my quote on some dress pattern paper since I had it laying around. In hindsight I wish I’d taken the time to dig out some white tissue paper instead.

The words in text came last. I saw them in my bin of saved phrases right there on top and decided they were meant to be on the page as well.

Thanks to Kristin for once again hosting this great challenge.

As you may have noticed on my sidebar, I’ve been displaying a couple of badges with summer dates. Well, the time has arrived!

SOC5-2The second challenge is The Summer of Color 5 hosted by Kristin at twinkletwinklelikeastar

This will be my 3rd year participating in this great summer challenge.

Each week for 6 weeks she’ll be giving us colors to create with. Any medium is acceptable. The sky’s the limit with this one. It’s so much fun and sometimes can really stretch you creatively when the colors don’t match up with your usual style.

Won’t you join me in these fun and exciting challenges?
