To knit or crochet

Last updated : February 28, 2016

I finally learned how to knit on needles…albeit only with a new special kind of yarn. There are many brands and styles of this yarn on the market…but this was the only one at the fancy pants yarn shop that a few of my knitting group friends and I went to last week.
I made this knitted scarf.  The surprising thing (that will only make sense to knitters)is that there are only 6 stitches per row….all knit stitches!
I even figured out how to bind off by myself!! It was without a near catastrophe but I managed to save it….thank goodness.
I think I’d have cried it it had fallen apart.

Then last night while watching “Wheel of Fortune”,
hey it’s educational for the kids,
I crocheted this scarf with the leftover yarn.
I can’t believe how quickly it went!
Of course it’s much thinner and much longer.
I am pretty sure I have to stop all yarnwork for a while.
I’ve had a pain in my basal thumb joint for a couple of months now. I had some stiffness and then something that felt like it came out of joint and popped back in. Honestly, after that it felt better than is had in a month or so…but now it  has flared up again.
I’ve decided (with my non-existent medical degree) that it’s either tendonitis or arthritis….hopefully the former.

Yep, I have no idea how you knitted that scarf because it doesn’t exactly look like a scarf to me. Guess you are right that it only makes sense to knitters!

It doesn’t sound like arthritis to me, but each person’s arthritis is different from mine, since I’ve had mine since birth. You will feel and see deformity if it’s arthritis, though. Let’s both hope it’s the former.

Beautiful scarves! Really like the colors! Sorry to hear about your sore thumb area…you sound like me diagnosing yourself! LOL! My philosophy is that I know my body better than anyone else. Not saying I don’t go to the docs but I only go if really really necessary…other times I do alot of research and try to figure it out on my own.

Ouch about your joint pain…that can’t be fun

have you tried Arnica cream…I find that helps often for that sort of discomfort
Mr Magpie swears by Organic Raw Vinegar in water two times a day for his wrists and one big toe that gives him trouble

What nice and different ‘yarn’ that is…very earthy and very pretty…you were knitting like a house a fire Missy!

    take care!

very cool scarfs! great for springtime!
sorry about your thumb – it could be the new activity of knitting gave you a bit of tendonitis – a little massage and ice may help – I think your awfully young for arthritis :)
