For several years I’ve wanted to join in with Karen of My Desert Cottage for her annual blog party but have missed it due to busy schedules. This year I finally made it!
So without further ado….Welcome to Halle’s Hobbies!
I’d like to introduce myself for you first time visitors. I’m Halle, which is pronounced Holly. I know..it’s different. I’m am a self taught mixed-media artist from Minnesota. I’ve been crafting since I was a kid. Over the years I had played around with a little bit of everything…plastic canvas, embroidery, painting plaster ornaments, quilting and even tried scrapbooking when I had my first child. It wasn’t until I discovered altered art in 2005 that I realized I had a passion for art. I started blogging in April of 2007 on Blogger then eventually purchased my own domain and moved my blog to WordPress. So here we are today.
On with the tour…
I have a couple of creative areas in our house. I’m am very lucky that the family puts up with my creative chaos.
I’ll start with my art space.
It’s not fancy or sweetly decorated but it’s mine! Although I do share my space with the laundry, deep freeze and utility room. Don’t get me wrong….I’m not complaining. I’m lucky because I have room to spread out and bonus, I have a sink to wash hands and brushes! I also have tons of storage for all my bits of this and that. Somehow I still find that I’m running out of room!
This is the view to the left of the previous shot. I keep my guillotine cutter on the clothes dryer. It happens to be a perfect height. The top of the file cabinet and the deep freeze have become storage spots as well. I’ve been organizing and purging bit by bit. Slowly but surely I’ll get it finished.
Remember I mentioned my family being patient with my creative chaos…
This is my sewing table that resides in a tiny corner in our family room. I tend to sew a lot so having a space that is constantly at the ready is key. Beyond creating and repairing basic utilitarian objects, sewing finds it’s way into my art as well. Currently, I have a feature article in Sew Somerset where I share my technique for collage cards.
And where would a blogger be without her computer…I love my big monitor. It makes photo editing a dream!
My “office area” sits in a nice little nook in the game area of our family room.
Truth be told, my desk is usually covered with papers. It’s just how I work best. I can’t explain it but it works for me unfortunately it drives Mr. G crazy. Thankfully he is tolerant.
Thanks for coming along on this little tour with me. I hope you’ll stop by again.
Hi Halle,
I think it is not about the space we create in but the wonderful creations that come out from it. For years my kitchen and dining room served me as my creative space and they served me well….But I must admit having my own space is nice too. Your space is great. Thanks for sharing and thanks for stopping by and for your kind comment. It was very nice meeting you.
Hugs,
❤️Ana
Nothing wrong with your space, my own creative space started in a small corner and later down in a basement. Although the basement didn’t have good light from windows, it still rocked… I had a sink to clean brushes and it stayed warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Everything comes with time and its all what you make out of things, and I think you did a great job in how you divided each work space up. All works and you have great storage pieces, I like the orange file cabinet.
Really fun seeing all these happy spaces you have to help you make the magic you do Halle. I agree about having your sewing machine ready to go and having a place to create is a good thing.
Happy weekend to ya.

Oh Halle. This was fun to see areas of your creative spaces I’ve never seen before. Although I’ve seen the area in the basement, I’ve never seen the office or sewing areas before. This was fun, and I’m super, super glad you joined in this year. Seems that all our mutual purging has really paid off.
Ah, another basement crafter. Like you, I share my space with the washer, dryer and a home gym behind me but I have lots of room and hammer nails into the wood to hang things. It looks like you have finished walls – I wish!
You seem to have things at hand as well, your crafting table area looks pretty organized.
Happy crafting from # 33.
love how you have creatively carved out your own little space!
Glad I stopped by today–it was nice to have a peak into your creating spaces!
You have to do what you have to do to find a place to create! Your space is great. I used my kitchen table for years before I got a room of my own. This also is my first time to the party…same reason as yours. Glad you could share, thanks!
Hi! I don’t think a crafting area needs to be full of flounces, or whatever to produce beautiful art ~ as long as it makes you happy!
Thanks for the peek at yours ~
I am happy to see that someone else has a washing machine in their creative space. I have my sewing area in an armoire and my little house in the garden. But, a lot of creating goes on in the garage which I share with the washer and dryer, 7 surfboards and my husband’s sports car which is more important than me!
When you have a fridge right near your creative space..all is right with the world as far as I know :D I think that is why I am enjoying my new garage space. Fewer stairs to the food <3
I love seeing studios in the basement–where mine is as well. Your space is very nice –it’s not how nicely our studios are decorated, but how we function and feel within the room. Happy Crafting!
I love your space. Would be perfect for me. Not sharing it really. Except when My Cowboy comes down to the freezer for meat for the smoker! I think it is a great space.
I am glad you joined the linky and invited us over. Have a great week.
Great crafty space Halle! You have heaps of wonderful storage drawers and lots of bench space which is ideal. Thanks so much for the tour. Karen.x
Hi Halle,
I actually love the spelling of your name. How great that you could join this wonderful party this year. Not a bad deal having your creative space spread around the house. I think that most of us have creative stations spread all around anyway. In this house, I actually have my first actual room for a studio. I was in a basement corner in our last house.
I love those adorable shelves above your computer, and it looks like you have good natural light and a view when sewing.
Thanks for coming by my blog, and for the nice comment.
Best wishes,
Gwen
Hi Halle! Welcome to the party this year! I’m so glad you joined us!! Not everyone has a designated room to act as a studio and you showed them that they can carve out a creative corner (or two) just about anywhere! I hope you are enjoying yourself and making lots of new friends!
xo,
Karen
I love seeing all kinds of creative spaces, large to small, fancy to simple, its the connection with the creative that inspires me. Thank you for sharing your creative spaces!
I like the way you’re utilising your space, using the dryer as a surface for the guillotine cutter is pretty clever and your art space is nicely organized! I also like your sewing desk by the window, natural light is nice for sewing.
Thanks for coming by O Deer and leaving a comment. :)
Thanks for sharing your creative spaces! You’ve done a great job carving out really functional areas and making them work for you.
Happy Crafting….and thanks so much for visiting my space, too!

You are creating from your heart and using your space wisely. I started out with a hatbox, and thought that was all I would need….two rooms of ever increasing size later…..I too am running out of space. Keep smiling and creating. Thanks for sharing
